Clip freezes when I edit audio

Hello, I am trying to work with a .mov video clip from a 5MP Kodak still camera [640x480 @ 13. FPS].

The clip loads and plays fine, but I want to suppress the terrible audio and add narration. No matter how I change the audio, it leads to a frozen video clip.

I am using a 2.4 Ghz computer with Win XP Home, and the following settings, which were there when I downloaded the program. I have the latest QT player.
