Error Message when trying to burn disc

Please can anyone explain to me what the error message below means:

The working folder (C:\Users\wyn\documents\corel\videostudio\12.0)may not have enough space. We will help to clean the converted cache file. You can also change the working folder path in Preferences

My video is 1hr 8 mins long that I am trying to burn. I have tried moving the project files in the workiing folder referred to above but this has not helped.

Hi Winifred

First of all the details under your ¡¥System¡¦ button seem to be in the wrong order, its not a problem..

Memory/RAM : as a guide:- should read 2 or 4 Gb
Video Card : 256MB ATI Radeon CX1300 Pro
Hard Drive : 320GB Serial ATA non Raid (7200rpm)

OK so you appear to have sufficient hard drive at 320 GB.
I do not use X2 (12) therefore my terminology may be a little different.

Before we go too far , have you manually updated Direct X, read the sticky/announcement at the top of the forum.

My first thoughts are a corrupt file in the project.

Can you give us more details of your working processes.
What type of video files and how you captured them.?
Can you give details of the projects content, right click on a video file and select properties.

Reading between the lines I assume you have completed the editing and then Share Create Disc. Is this correct.
At what point does this error message appear, straight away or during rendering?

Video Studio has to convert the project prior to burning the disc. You may be best creating the video file first, In the editing stage.

Memory should read 2.88.
I have made all my vsp projects into video files. If I try to make a disc with one or two of them, everything works okay. The videos contain the first eight months of my new granddaughgters life and there are a lot of them. However, I am only trying to fit six episodes onto one disc. I edit the original files which are transferred from a Sony Handycam HDR-SR7E camcorder. There are over 30 .vsp files in my working folder referred to earlier. After editing the vsp files, I make them into video files - which are stored in a different location - and I am now trying to burn my first disc. I put 1 hour and 8 mins onto the Insert Video Files page, then I choose my menu plate and choose a backgrouund image and music. I then insert my rewritable disc, press the burn button and the error message appears.
I have the last DirectX update. Some of the vsp files contain original footage from my camcorder coupled with movies made with Muvee 6 Auto Producer. They are always rendered though as one video file and this has worked okay in the past.
Does VS require a file or something to render the project to before it goes to disc.
I am not very technically minded, so sorry if the explanation above is a bit ham-fisted.

First, there are in fact two working folders which in normal circumstances are one and the same. In File > Preferences you can either accept the default folder or set a new one on a hard disk drive which has plenty of space on it. But that one is for the Editing module. And if you change it to another drive, this change does not affect the second working folder, which is assigned to the Burning module -- which is the one we are talking about here. To change that one, you need to have the Burning Module open. Click on the first of the icons down in the bottom left of screen (Settings and Options) and select Preferences. On the dialogue box which appears, the bottom box is for the working folder.

We also need to know the properties you used for your converted videos. You say your project is 1 hour 8 minutes long. But if you used the default settings for Project Properties, (bitrate of 8000 kbps and LPCM audio) your project would be just a bit too long to fit on a single layer DVD. Those properties only allow an hour. You would thus need to change the audio to Dolby or mpeg layer 2, and then it should fit. Or else you drop the bitrate a little to, say, 7500 kbps.

But when you put the video you want to burn into the burning timeline,does the line below the timeline remain all green, or does it go into the red? If the latter, then again it indicates you are trying to burn too much to the disc.

You seem to have a 320GB hard drive BUT how much FREE SPACE do you have. Nowadays 320GB is not that large especially for people who do a lot of video editing.

One of my several hard drives is 1 Terabyte but only has 200 GB remaining!

Thanks for the info, your camera HDR-SR7E produces 1080i High Definition recording (AVCHD Format)

Ken is probably the most experienced when it comes to AVCHD. I¡¦m sure he will come back on this one.

In the meantime we need to know the properties of your original video file. The AVCHD.
Right click a clip in the timeline and select properties. What are they.

After completing the editing you have converted the project to video files.
What template/settings did you use to create the new video files.
Again Right click one of these clips and select properties.

I confess I have been assuming that, though starting off with AVCHD video, he was trying to burn a DVD... and not a Blu-Ray or AVCHD hybrid disc. But that was something we do indeed need confirmation of...

I can capture in standard definition on my camera - which I do at present because I find VS12+ rubbish at editing HD. The videos play well enough on my BRay player.

I decided to look at the space on my hard drive before doing anything else and the space was down to only 1.7GB. I think this must be some of the trouble, if not all, I am having burning the disc. So before I do anything else I am going to buy an external hard drive this weekend. Do I need to install VS12+ on this drive before I can burn discs etc. or just specify the new drive as the working folder in Preferences?

No you don¡¦t need to install VS again, Just allocate a new working folder.

Whether reading to and from the external hard drive causes problems, slower editing for instance I don¡¦t know.
But I am sure others on the forum will have used this process and have comments.

In the meantime you may be best to clean up your drive, freeing memory space.

VS uses two working folders one for the editing, allocated from the capture page or File Preferences.
The other is dedicated to the burner process.
From the burner module.
Select the icon lower left (VS10) for ¡¥settings and options¡¦ (or F6) to locate this folder.

My working folder is always on an external drive (firewire) and I have no problems.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with this problem. The answer did lie in the fact that I did not have enought space for the working folder on my hard drive. I have since purchased an external drive and everything is working satisfactorily.
