Well this one turned out easy.
I ignored the Corel Knowledge Base Advice about stopping the installation, removing WinDVD - then installing the DirectX update and start the installation of Corel Win DVD again.

Instead I let the installation continue.
When it finished I then installed the latest version of DirectX.
Once DirectX had installed I simply ran WinDVD and I was asked to register the program with my Corel Account following which it opened and ran.

Thank you so much, sjj1805.

I'm glad you were able to get the same error.

When I run dxdiag, it says I have Direct X version 11 and when I go to the Microsoft site you gave the link to, the latest version it offers me is 9.26.1590.

Is there something I'm not understanding?

OK the version number "appears to be earlier" but have you tried it?

It works! *doing happy dance*

Thank you so much, sjj1805! :D

I have installed the latest Direct X drivers. The version numbers seem to be confused.

I've noticed a problem, though. The screen capture function (which is the reason I bought WinDVD 9) captures a completely black image. I guess I'll search the other threads in this forum for a solution (unless you happen to know what the problem is!).

Thanks again! :D

Okay, it's been several months now, and I have yet to find a solution to the screen capture problem. I Googled it and the only thread that speaks of it is this one! :(

When I check the box "hardware acceleration", the image becomes washed out and the screen caps are completely black.

When I uncheck the "hardware acceleration" box, the image looks beautiful and the screen caps are also completely black.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Here's the info I get from WinDVD 9. It doesn't recognize Windows 7 (I'm still on the Release Candidate).

WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray is not supported on Windows 7 and has little bugs that will cause it to crash, WinDVD Pro 2010 is fully supported on the Windows 7 Platform.

In regards to the All2HD, this feature is only available when playing back retail DVD movies.
