No Sound

I have just made an mpeg file (via "create video file") using video clips taken by a friend using a Hitachi MV208E camcorder. The file itself plays perfectly with sound when I open it on my computer. When I burn it onto a DVD I get the video but no sound. I have repaeted the process with one of my own mpeg files with the same result and on two computers! Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

What version of VS are you using, and more importantly, does it have SE in its title? I ask because the camera you mention is a mini DVD one, and as far as I am aware, would film using Dolby audio. If you have an SE version of VS, that means it is a 'Special Edition' -- a cut down version, which does not come with the Dolby codec for licensing reasons. So if you are trying to render a DVD using Dolby audio, you won't get audio...

Thanks for the prompt reply Ken. We've had some recent correspondence on the forum before about my inability to burn a DVD project composed mainly of still images - that problem I resolved by splitting the project into smaller bits and removing images that seemed to be a problem.
The VS I'm using is Pro X2 Ultimate and by the way the DVD won't give sound even on a normal DVD player through the TV.

Hello Steve,
Thanks for that link. I have checked out the link and it has given me a few ideas.

I have also adjusted the audio format in the project settings from Mpeg to LPCM - should this make a difference?

Also in the project properties I have been setting an aspect ratio of 16:9 but when I come to burn the mpeg file created I note that the default is always 4:3 so just before clicking on burn I have been altering the default to 16:9 i.e the same as in the project properties. I then get a message saying that this action will change the display aspect ratio of the project and some information may be lost. Could this be why my burned DVDs has lost sound?

I am currently rendering the project again - a slow process taking a least an hour. In this project I will not alter the 4:3 setting before I burn after rendering and will get back to you with the outcome after rendering and burning are completed.

Hello again Steve,

Well, I've had success at last!! Not sure which of the alterations I made did the trick (see my last message) but I now have a DVD with sound. By the way, I did not change the Windows Audio settings which appeared to be OK.
