Alludo USER to USER Web Board

I have a Samsung camcorder (model SC-MX20b) which produces MP4 files. They have caused persistent and inevitable crashes when used in VideoStudio Pro X2. I have improvised a work around by converting those files to generic MP4 with another conversion program. They work ok in VideoStudio then, but there are occasional gaps. Is the Samsung output some sort of proprietary MP4 format? Is there a better way to deal with this issue? Playback on the camcorder is flawless. The Samsung files have a very high bit rate from what I am able to figure out.

As far as I am aware, your camera uses standard H.264 AVC standard definition mp4 so this should not need conversion. VS can normally handle that without problem -- though I should add that these highly compressed formats such as mp4 can be difficult. I assume, though, that you installed anything camera'-related that came on the CD with the camera. This would at least ensure that if any special codec was needed, it would be installed that way.

How exactly are you downloading the video from the SD card in the camera to your computer? Did any software come on the installation disc? Sometimes, you have to use that to download the video successfully, and then open it in VS for editing.

What is your intention with the video? Burn it to DVD? If so, you could probably your conversion program to convert it direct to DVD-compatible mpeg-2, rather than into another form of mp4. It is a lossy codec, so each time you convert, you lose one generation of quality. Or are intending to use it just for uploading, say, to YouTube?
