Hi I am new to this forum and wonder if anyone can offer any suggestions to my problem.I have purchased a capture device to transfer vhs to dvd.Using the program it captures the video but only in 82.8mb chunks. So while I reset the capture the vhs tape is still running so I now have numerous captures of 82.8mb on my hard drive butr also have missed some whilst resetting. The hard drive (one of two on the computer)is NTFS and has 214gb free.Any help would be appreciated .

Hi

You need to provide a lot more information about your problem.
Click to read the sticky at the top of this forum

Knowing the VS version would be good, I assume it may be 10, although a SE version may not be good.

The make and type of capture device, is it Firewire, internal capture card, usb device.
How do you connect the device, what type of cables do you use.

What capture settings are you using. Mpeg, Dv-Avi, what are the settings.?

Seems strange to limit at 82.8 mb.

Your system/pc setup can be useful, fill in the details in your profile, they will show when clicking the ¡¥system¡¦ button below.

Have just checked disc and it says Se/10
Also one other thing that happens is that when it gets to this 82.8MB a message box comes up saying unexpected error, unspecified error.

Hi

I did try Capwiz at one time , never did get it working properly, that came with VS10SE.
Capturing video via usb is not the best choice.

If you are successful with the Debut software use that. Then import your captured files to VS10.
The SE version may not have all the functionality of the full version. It is difficult to compare the two as you can only install one VS10 software.
Still don¡¦t understand why 82.8 Mb, unless you have a capture time specified.
Others may have ideas, as I said I just couldn¡¦t get Capwiz to work.

Other Capture options.
If you have a MiniDV camcorder that supports passthrough, then that may be the best option.
Basically you connect the camcorder to the pc via firewire, DV-Out.
Connect the VHS to Cam AV-In.
The camera acts a analogue /digital converter.

Many thanks for the reply Trevor. Will try the camcorder option .I have Adobe Premiere Elements and tried that but it did not recognize the capture card. The 82.8mb limit certainly has me baffled as I have uninstalled the software twice but still the same result. The Debut Software does work so will carry on with that for the moment.
