Re the TS folder
1 I was not aware that VS would create a TS folder automatically when creating a DVD and if one already existed the files in it would be overwritten.Therefore the folder
Into which the files are saved to could
be my working folder or any other named folder.

I must have got the impression from somewhere that create DVD Folders meant
Raising a Video _TS folder so that is what I have always done and that has always worked for me.
The following also confirmed to me that I thought I was doing the correct thing

Create DVD Folders
This option is only enabled when the video file being created is a DVD-Video.
This is the option I normally choose. The DVD will be created and placed in your chosen folder on your hard drive in preparation for burning the
video file to a DVD.

...And Ken, just to clarify one point. You say you normally prepared a [Video]_TS folder. But later ask about a 'DVD Folder' as though it is something different. Just for the sake of clarity: a DVD folder *IS* a Video_TS folder

... And a point in *my* defence... I know exactly that a DVD Folder and Video_TS folder are one and the same, and have done so for years. And to repeat, I ALWAYS prepare a Video_TS folder ... er ... DVD Folder!

Thanks for your perceiverence, the answer is still the same
(that is no) regarding my original question.Nothing has changed, its just
that the subject of this post got sidetracked by the TS thing.I had to complete the DVD of the project I originally referred to as there was a time limit to show it.Therefore it had no background menu.So, I will have to wait until I get to the same stage in my next project and then report back.In the absence of further advice like a workflow to follow for instance
there it not much more I can do about it as I was probably am doing something wrong somewhere......... Ken

Right - let us forget the folder location which is now irrelevant.
When you created the video that you wanted to use as a background video, please detail the steps you performed to do so.

What was your source material and the format of that video, e.g.
MPG, DV or some other format.
How did it get onto your computer e.g. from camcorder by firewire connection, imported from a DVD, downloaded off the internet etc.
After editing how did you go about creating the video, presumably from the [Share] tab and selecting [create video] - what format did you select - PAL DVD, NTSC DVD or a user defined setting - include bit rates, screen dimensions e.g.
MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
AC-3 Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

The source material for the DVD menu was from clips of the .vsp project that were in the timeline.That was rendered to mpeg and saved as a folder that was in my Video _TS folder.
It had audio that was sourced from audio that was in the same place , that is from the project
Audio.Video and audio were of the same duration,(less than 20 secs) It had the same properties and settings of the project I was making the DVD of.

The main project was captured from video that I had taken with my digital cam onto mini DV tape.
This was transferred via firewire, it was captured as DV format,720x576 DV Type 1 PAL into my
Working folder Video Projects..

This was my workflow to create the DVD Menu
create video file saved as mpeg in my Video _TS folder with _ inbetween the file name.
rendered that file via save in the video save options box,the named file then shows in the TS folder.
start a new project
nothing in time line, set everything to match video file save options box.(did this throughout)
Share- create DVD disc
add video files ?open named file in TS folder- -project shows.
Mpeg files DVD PAL 720x 576 25 fps Lower field !st 7000 kbps Constant Dol Dig Audio
48kHz 3/2 l LCR SR SL Audio bit rate 384 kbps These settings were matched at every stage.

The audio to match the proposed Menu background was set in the Advanced Audio Box
