I imported a video in Pro X2 and exported it as Huffyuv, but when I played it back it looked blocky, but when I exported the same file in Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus as a Huffyuv it wasn't blocky. Why is that?

I really don't know without more information.. Try using another codec in VS12 and see if you get the same results. What is your end target media, DVD, or for PC/Internet viewing? Huffy is one of the AVI wrapped codecs. For my video work I tend to stick with DV type-1, unless my original source files are MPEG.

Did you further customize/configure the Huffy codec? If so what settings did you use? There are some configurations of HuffyUV that are lossy..

I imported a DVD and it would render as interlaced so my settings for that were:
Codeec Used: Huffyuv .AVI settings: Project Median: Best, Project Gradient: Best
Field Threshold: 576 lines, I have none of the other options checked.
Video size: 640X480
Frame rate: 29.97
I picked the frambased option but that makes Corel VS crash for some reason so I have to pick the render "Upper-field based" option.

Your DVD contains Vob Files that are actually Mpeg 2.

The DVD will be imported as Mpeg 2 files, at (4 Gb per hour)
Have a frame size of 720 X 480

Why would want to convert these to Huffyuv.AVI? at ( 26 Gb per hour)
Having a frame size of 640 X 480

So what were the properties of your captured /imported DVD files?

For Video editing, I heard lossy codecs are not good for editing.
imported MPEG-2 Properties:
Video Type: MPEG-2 files, upper field first
Total Frames: 42,982 frames
Attributes: 24 bits, 720 X 480, 4:3
Frame Rates: 29.970 frames/second
Variable bit-rates: (9200 kbps)

But you took an MPEG-2 (from the DVD) and converted it, so you have already lost a generation.

Import your DVD as an MPEG-2 and edit it. When you render for final distribution make sure SmartRender is enabled. That way only the parts that have changed (transitions, cuts, etc.) will be re-rendered. The naked eye will probably not notice and quality loss with one re-render.

Just to add, when you finally render the video file use Share Create Video File ¡VSame as First Video Clip, this will use your video¡¦s properties.

That still doesn't explain why it turned out blocky when I rendered it in Corel Video Studio, in Ulead Video Studio it came out normal looking when I rendred it, in Pro X2 it looks bad.

It turned out blocky cos you change the mpeg 2 file into a Avi file, you changed the frame size from 720 to 640.
What do you think happened to the extra frame pixels.?
Your expecting Avi Huffyuv to be better quality.
You cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear as the saying goes.

Are you now saying you have used two versions of Video Studio to render this file.?
If so which versions did you use. ?
Did you use the same conversion/render settings for both versions.?

Your original Mpeg2 properties indicate a full quality video file.
You will not improve the quality by converting the files.
When you play back these videos do you have a quality issue?
