Hello,
I just installed MovieFactory 5 (5.50.0124.0 SE) as well as Burn. Now 4.5 SE in addition to the version 4.0 which was installed together with MovieFactory. Those software were on a CD I bought together with a new cd-DVD writer Plextor PX-B920UF. Unfortunately, the 3 tests I performed so far to burn simple data files on CDs and DVDs ended in a clash: the disc was burned all right, an then a small window saying the writing was over appeared. I closed this window by clicking on its only button labelled "OK", and the small window disappeared, but Burn. Now remained frozen.
The screen looks the following way at that point: The mouse pointer takes the shape of an hourglass as soon as it is located on Burn. Now's window, and the shadow of the burning process' progress bar window remains visible on it (Burn. Now's window wouldn't refresh any more). There is no way to quit Burn. Now: neither by clicking on the close button on the upper right frame of the window, neither in Windows' Task Manager (--> End Task), neither by rebooting the computer !!! The computer does not event restart at all because Windows cannot stop Burn. Now, and the only way consists in pulling the plug.
The problem is the same with Burn. Now 4.5 and 4.0.
Can you help me solve this problem? I couldn't find any useful clue anywhere. A couple of other posts (e.g. topic http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... d1dc663a67) had similar problems, but no solution could be found.
Thank you very much for your help.
P.S.: Specifications of my system:
Computer: HP D530 CMT
OS : Windows XP Professionel SP3 (french version)
RAM : 2 Go
Available disc space total/free : 250 Go/220 Go
Graphics controller : nVidia GeForce FX5200
DirectX 9.0C (4.09.0000.0904)
Printer HP LaserJet CM1312 MFP (switched off during the tests anyway)
Note: this system was installed recently (about 5 months ago) and only safe (and legal) programs were installed on it. It is updated regularly with Microsoft's patches and it is protected with a firewall and an anti-virus software, also updated frequently. It is very stable and does not have any problem with other installed software.
Burn. Now remains frozen at the end of the burning process

Go HERE and download the latest MS Direct-X drivers. The most current is dated March 2009.
The version you have installed is severely outdated. MS DirectX is updated almost quarterly, and is not part of the automatic Windows updates. It must be downloaded and installed manually.

Many thanks for your reply. So I dowloaded the DirectX update you pointed to and installed it. Strangely, the DirectX version number displayed when running "dxdiag" is still the same after the update as before, i.e., 9.0C (4.09.0000.0904), although several MB of data were dowloaded and installed during the update process.
Anyway, I tried again to burn 2 CDs after updating DirectX, but it ended the same way as before : a freeze of Burn. Now and the computer had to be switched off the hard way.
Two more observations I made during the burning process:
1) The "Cancel" button on the progress bar window is inactive all the time, from the beginning to the end of the burning process. I wondered if this was really the usual behaviour since it is not very useful that way.
2) The Windows task manager displays 1 line labelled "Ulead Burn. Now - ..." during the burning process, but at the end (after the freeze), a second, identical line appears, as if there were 2 identical processes called the same way.
I also had a look on the Ulead web site to see whether some updates were available for this software (e.g. http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 7911963266), but I did not see anything promising. Maybe I looked on the wrong place.
Do you have an other suggestion to solve the problem?
