Smart Rendering: conditions to meet

Post by TheodeKlerk »

The DWS as well as MediaStudio and MovieFactory allow you to "smartrender" compliant video files. Meaning, they simply do not touch them for re-encoding, except where you modified them for transitions, edits and such.
Until recently it still happened to me that a perfectly compliant file still got rendered. After a tip I read somewhere else (thanks, whoever you are!) they now do render smartly. In case you have the same experience, this is how smart render seems to work:

- setup your project template such that the video encoding rate matches at least the rate with with the video was encoded into MPEG. Just setting it to max 8000 seems to do the trick for almost all
- do the same for your MP/AC3 audio

Then the rendering will be fast and painless. One proviso:
- all video material must have used the same encoder for MPEG2. A mix of MPEG2 files produced by Ulead, Adobe, Ligos, Hauppauge, a desktop DVD recorder etc will inevitably lead to rendering of part or all of the material
