I would like to create separate images which I can use to overlay an image.
For example.
I have a map of Europe which has NO text such as Country names and Cities just the borders (of each country) and each country of a separate color.
I would like to create separate images one for the Country names which has nothing but the Country names the remainder transparent and a second image containing City Names the remainder transparent.
Then with the image of the map I could then overlay with either the Country names and/or the City names.
How can I do this?
I would use the original image of the map to create each 'transparency so that I get the Country names and City Names in the correct places.
I have read something about using 'displacement maps' but not sure if this is the best method or how to do it?
I also think that using Layers might be a clue but I don'y know how.
I know how to create images with transparent backgrounds.
Can anyone give me a quick lesson.
Thanks

I think that I have worked out how to create 'transparent overlays' so don't worry about this post.
The method I used is as follows -
1) open the original image (my map)
2) Create a new Raster Layer and select it.
3) Add Text for Country Names.
4) Deselect the layer containing the original map - all I now see is the Country names.
5) Save as
I now have an image containing nothing but the Country names.
If anyone reading thinks that there is a better method I would love to know about it.
Thanks.

Thanks again
You have answered another question
as I had noticed that a new layer was automatically created even after creating one manually.as when you add some text you create a new vector layer by default.
Thanks again

If you have a vector layer selected in the layer palette when you start the text or any of the line tools in vector mode - that layer should be used.
If you do not have a vector layer when you start shape / pen / text in vector mode, PSP creates a new vector layer for you.
I'm pretty sure that's my experience anyway. PSP X2.
