Uninstall/reinstall without losing clips.

Post by grindy »

Hi,

I've got Corel VideoStudio version 12.0.98.0 Pro
System is P4 and XP Home.
I had VideoStudio V11.5 and recently uninstalled it. Since then, whenever I attempt to import video from a folder - VideoStudio 12 crashes.
I suspect that they were sharing a file that was removed during the uninstall of the prior version.
I believe that uninstalling/reinstalling VideoStudio V12 will correct this condition, but don't want to lose all the clips that I have in my library.

How do I uninstall/reinstall and keep my old clips?

Thx,
grindy

Hi

The library clips are only a thumbnail a representation of the files on your hard drive.
Providing you don¡¦t delete the hard drive files you can add them to the library again.

Otherwise

For earlier versions the library files were called
VS_Video.dat, VS_Image.dat etc

And were in a folder:- C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\9.0 or 10 or 11

But VS 12 is installed in a completely different location to the older versions.

I don¡¦t have VS 12 installed but others may know the location of these files .(I assume they will be called the same)
In the meantime do a search.
Then copy the files to a safe location, and replace after re-installing. It worked with the earlier versions.

The folder you need is here:
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 12\Ulead.dat

Thanks to both of you, Trevor and Mitchell, for taking time to reply.

I'll do the reinstall tonight, now that I understand more about the process.

Thanks again,
grindy
