WinDVD and BD+
Up until Fox put out the X-Men trilogy on Blu-ray, I was pretty much able to play most Fox Discs, but since then every disc either tell me that I need to update my drive's firmware( which it is) or I get a black screen and nothing happens. I've updated WinDVD with the current March 2009 patch and still nothing. Is Corel going to issue a new update that fixes this?
I have had an open "question" to Corel Support since 5/2/2009 regarding this issue. I've found that all new Fox BD+ discs (The Wrestler, Notorious, Slumdog Millionaire, to name a few) have this problem.sjj1805 wrote:First time we hear of patches and new releases is usually at the same time as everyone else - they appear on their website. Occasionally we get asked to try out a pre-release of a patch but alas none relating to this software.
So far only response from support has been to reinstall the SW and all 3 patches in order. Didn't work. I hope they come up with something soon. It is ruining an otherwise great product.
Everyone should submit this problem to them when they come across it so they understand the severity of the issue.

You have that back to front, you update software BD players, you do not update hardware BD players. (Well - not normally!)morgandc2 wrote:I would like to know what the difference between the hardware and software BD players and why you don't have to continually update a software player...
A hardware BD player is something that you hook up to a television set.
A software BD player is some software that you install into a computer so that you can play discs on your computer.

Which is why I placed in brackets (Not normally).oddius2008 wrote:Hi sjj1805,
Got a firmware update for the standalone but that only adds BD live I think, and which I don't really care for, especially if WDVD 9BR+ and PDVD 7.3Ultra attempts are anything to go by.
All manner of things can get the odd firmware update every now and again, mobile phones, DSLR Cameras. Software players are updated much more often either by way of a software patch or even by a newer version.
It is "normal" for software to be updated.
It is "rare" for hardware to get new firmware.
