Recording back to HDV camcorder (HV20) - revisited

Post by cantinoro »

OK, I'm revisiting this and posting a new topic since my question and problem has changed since original post. I'm having a heck of a time recording edited footage back to HDV camcorder (HV20) in VS 12 Pro. I have no problem capturing and editing HDV footage. Originally, I couldn't record anything back to HDV camcorder until I applied the VS 12 pro patch. Now it records back without any noticeable problem, until I play back. After recording is finished, I play back and after about 2 minutes or so the play back continually skips several seconds and continues so until the end. But the created mpeg file plays fine on the computer and when I create a standard def DVD. I was afraid it might be the HV20 or the fact that I'm using a regular mini DV tape. But the original footage (6:50) plays fine. It's only the footage that was recorded back to the camcorder that has the problem. Would using an HDV mini dv tape make a difference? How else can I get Hi def output? I do still have VS 10 installed and it was mentioned that their was a patch for this software to handle outputting HDV footage back to HV20. Is this still available anywhere? Sorry for the long post, but I'm at my wits end.

Ok I don't get it.
With all the things you can do with the video in this
day and age, why would you want to record it back to the
camcorder?

Sorry but I just have to ask that question.

Because I have this nice, new, sparkling edited footage in HD. And since I don't have a Blu ray player or burner, I'd like to show my edited footage in Hi Definition.

You'll find the relevant patch for Canon on VS10 on this page, down towards the bottom: http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp_10.htm

Archiving. Tape is still the best archiving medium.

Darn it. I only have VS 10, not VS 10 Plus. VS 10 doesn't even have options for HDV. Any other ideas for displaying edited HDV footage on TV??

What I did was buy a Sony PlayStation 3 which is not only a fully rated Blu-Ray player, but can be networked to you computer and connected to your HDTV via HDMI. It will thus play all your high defintion edited video, whether HDV or AVCHD, directly from the computer on your TV (using either WMP or Nero Media Home as a server...) Wonderful! It was at that point that I gave up worrying about exporting back to camera, I confess... The PS3 will also accept HD video stored on an external hard drive or USB stick connected to it via one of its two USB ports, or even HDV (or AVCHD) as edited burned as archive footage to a standard DVD (in a folder labelled in upper case VIDEO) or else as an AVCHD hybrid disc burned to a standard DVD, including a menu...

Think about it. And the PS3 not only will play your standard DVDs but actually upscales them a bit so that they are closer to, but not quite, Blu-Ray quality...

Forgot all about that.
I do keep all my original tape.
