Audio Syncing Problem Using VideoStudio X2

Post by patricio_latorre2004 »

Hi Ken. Long time no see. I was about one year ago asking about the following problem:

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 704#160704

Can you believe, that now, using VideoStudio X2 i have the same problem? I have formated my PC. Windows Vista Ultimate, Video Studio X2 with patch, latest drivers (clean install).

When i use transitions i get this problem. I really dont know what to do!

Please, help!!!!

Does it get more and more out of sync the further you go into the video playback?

If it goes bad when you use transitions, have you split your audio? If so that would certainly cause your problem.

I havent split the audio, just cutting the videos, and then joining them together with transitions.

I had the same sync problem when using transitions with AVCHD clips, but I don't think you are working with AVCHD (are you?) It got progressively worse as I played further into the video. Here is what I think could be causing the problem:

There is a known problem with transitions and AVCHD in VS X2 that has been discussed at length in this forum whereby X2 erroneously duplicates two video frames at the end of a transition. A frame sequence that should be something like "ABCDE "will instead be "ABCBCDE", where frames "B" and "C" are repeated. This causes a little jump or "blip" in the video, which is most evident when there is movement in the scene. It is not apparent in a static scene.

Although this problem seems mostly associated with AVCHD, at least one person has posted that he has this extra frame problem with clips from a non-AVCHD camcorder.

If you are seeing quick little jumps in the video at the end of transitions, then you too may be getting two extra video frames with each transition you use. With two extra video frames per transition (but no extra audio frames), as you get further into the video (and thus more transitions), the cumulative effect of the extra video frames for every transition becomes apparent by the audio and video becoming more and more out of sync.

After the first transition there are only 2 extra video frames, so the audio and video are only out of sync by 2 frames and it is not noticeable. But after 10 transitions, the video has 20 extra frames and the audio has no extra frames, so audio and video are out of sync by 20 frames, and it is noticeable. After 20 transitions, the sync is off by 40 frames. And it just keeps getting worse the further into the video you go if you are using transitions between each clip.

That is just a theory. One strike against the theory is the fact that, as far as I recall, forum members who have posted about the jumps in the video when using transitions have not mentioned audio/video sync problems. So maybe the sync problem is not related to the extra frames generated at the end of transitions. But I suspect they are related, because when I stopped using transitions to avoid the jumps in the video, my sync problems went away too.

If you only get sync problems when using transitions, I suspect you may be experiencing the duplicate frame problem.

Hi, I'm using HDV 1080i 60i for PC or HDV 1080i 60i for HDV. What you tell me makes perfect sense to me and explains everything, because what I do are small videos (scenes) to make the video more enjoyable. So after 20 minutes of video, there are about 40 transitions, so it would be arount 80 frames, about 3 secs delay.

Now the question is. Is there a solution for that?

I'm trying Sony Vegas Pro 9 but when using lots ov videos sends error messages about low memory, so I have to do the videos in small groups (10 videos each for example) and then rejoining them in the big video (6 of the videos that i just did) and there so far. But takes to long. I should select all the videos at once and let it render.

I really hope you understand my english, not my native language.

Thanks for everything.

Your English is excellent and easy to understand.

You can verify that you are experiencing duplicate frames by using VS X2's transport control to look at the video frame-by-frame near the end of a transition. Using a clip with movement in it, but with the camcorder steady (that is, not panning), with duplicate frames you can see the video jump backwards one frame at the end of the transition. Then when you advance forward one more frame, the video goes back to the place it was before it jumped backwards. After that, it proceeds normally until the next transition. For example if the video is of a car driving from left to right down the highway, at the end of a transition the car goes backwards for one frame then proceeds forward again.
Now the question is. Is there a solution for that?
A work-around is to not use transitions, which isn't a real solution, but it solved the problem sync for me. I do miss transitions though.

The real solution of course is for Corel to fix the problem. They are aware of the reports on this forum about brief jumps in the video at the end of transitions, and have asked forum members for sample clips they can use to investigate the problem. They made no promises to actually fix it, but have at least indicated a willingness to look into the problem.

If you want to contribute clips for their testing, please read this thread:

Thanks for everything. I will send them videos. Is really frustrating not been able to use transitions. Thanks for all the time dedicated and the suggestions.
