WinDVD - No Real Bonus

I just upgraded to x2, and Corel offers a "bonus"
A free copy of WinDVD...
However, what they failed to tell in the add was...
It is an old, outdated version of WinDVD... 8
You can't even add the upgrade patch to it...
It says version not valid...
WinDVD 9 is out now, why didn't they include that one?
This is kind of stinky.... And cheap....

None of us work for Corel, so we can't tell you exactly wht they are thinking, but...
That's pretty common in the PC world... When you get free "bundled" software, it's usually a limited-feature teaser version that might entice you to pay for an upgraded or full version. (Sometimes it has the opposite effect... You get the impression that the software is junk.) And, when you buy a new PC, it's usually loaded with lots of free software, commonly known as "crapware".

Not all of this software is completely useless, but it's usually not worth the clamed value either.
When you
pay for bundled software it's often a different story. Sometimes you can get two or more related (full version) programs for less than buying them separately.

Yes, this is the impression I have now of WinDVD; I hated it!
Would never even pay a dollar for it...
I was very disappointed when I saw them advertising WinDVD 9,
and then they say it's a bonus to get this WindDVD 8,
and you can get if for FREE on the internet!

In the good ol' days, VS came with Cool 3D 3.0. Now that was a useful little program for creating 3D titles to use in your videos.

It is a form of advertising. Buy something and get something free.
The freebie is either an old out of date "something" or is a current version but severely crippled where you pay to unlock various features.
Not just software companies but also hardware manufacturers do this.
When was the last time you purchased a brand new computer and it was completely blank.
No Operating system
No 60 day trial copy of Microsoft Office, no SE version of Nero etc.
