Hi All,
Whilst creating my latest DVD using VideoStudio 11.5.0157.2 Plus, I've had no issues adding backing music but ran into a problem when I split the audio for the main Video track so I could alter its audio component.
In the Voice Track, as long as I apply no audio filters the video preview plays the video+audio+backing music no probs. However, as I wanted to alter just the audio segment using the "pitch shift". The little modified audio segment with the applied audio filter sounds perfect. But when you play the entire video, I've lost the audio section (no sound) but the Music track plays my backing audio.
Any ideas as to what's causing the audio filter to stop playing the split audio from my video? As soon as I removed all the audio filters, everything works as per normal again.
Thanks,
Frank.

I've never been impressed with VS's audio filters. I've tried using them and generally have experienced nothing but problems. It's certainly one part of the program that could use some serious working over, but don't count on that happening.
Try using a third party audio editor such as AUDACITY, a free open source utility for recording and editing sounds. It has some great filters included.

Apart from Ron's helpful advice, with which I totally concur, my only other suggestion is to actually render you project and see if the altered sound comes through. Quite often, after editing, playback in preview mode, whether Clip or Project, does not come over well. But I often find that the full render of the project plays perfectly.

Thanks Ron/Ken,
Unfortunatly, I have tried rendering the FULL project to a DVD-RW disc and just that little section of video where the audio was split off has no sound. Once I remove any audio filter however, the audio returned back to normal as previewed
I downloaded Audacity v1.3.7 which looks like a fairly sophisticated audio editor & nice to use. However, how do I save off audio file once I've split the audio from original Video Track? It's not like the "saved trimmed video" function which allows me to just save off a chuck of video.
So if you guys could help me save off my 'split audio', run it through Audacity and then drop it back into VS voice track that should get around my problem?

Hi everyone,
I've managed to resolve the problem by using the following workaround:
1. Saved Trimmed Video of the segment you're having issues applying audio filter.
2. Open new project, drop n' drag in newly created video segment & spilt audio.
3. Apply required filters to Voice Track and then create/save off new Video file.
4. Open original project, delete effected video segment & drop in newly created video file with audio filters applied.
5. Preview project to ensure changes sound right & then render final video with correct sound effects.
It's as though the current project was either too large or complex for the audio filter to work on a small segment of video. Where as splitting it off & working on it seperately appears to have done the trick so I wonder whether the Voice Track mutes (I did check & increase volume settings) after applying any audio filter in a project with multiple clips?
Thanks again,
Frank.

no sound after applying audio filter
I experienced similar problems:
On a VS 11.5 project I have followed what is written in the Understanding and Using Audio Filters tutorial topic topic (split audio, applied first Normalize, then Amplify filters). Previewing the project from some preceding clips (project mode), the sound of the audio clip split earlier disappeared, it came back only if I stopped play-back somewhere in the relevant clip and re-started. I wondered, how this audio clip would sound after rendering the whole project? Sounds of audio clips manipulated by audio filters , not only those split from video track, but also those on music track added to video as background music simply disappeared (became silent) after rendering. The only way I figured out was to render and convert into mpeg only those clips of the project which had been affected by the audio filters, then cut the original clips from the project and replace them with the new mpeg clips. Anyway I came across similar problems with volume rubber banding: after increasing the volume of a video clip by rubber banding, when I previewed the project, the sound of this video clip disappeared, I could listen to the volume changes I made earlier by rubber banding only if I played back the selected clip (clip mode).
