You'll have to excuse that I am a bit behind the times...

I just recently purchased Video Studio, but got a great deal on
Video Studio 10 SE...

My question is, what are the differences between VS 10 SE & VS 10 Plus?

I did notice, right off, that the manual for VS 10 Plus talks about a
DV to DVD wizard option on the "splash screen," but I saw no evidence
of this in my VS 10 SE version.

Well I certainly hope you *did* get a great deal on VS10 SE since it is a free, crippled version of the program, usually distributed with a piece of hardware and intended as a promotional lure to buy the full program (VS10/10+ without the letters SE attached.) 'SE', by the way, stands for 'Special Edition', which gives some indication that it is a cut-down version.

So if you paid one cent for the program, it was not such a great deal after all. You have been diddled...

And, the most common omission from a SE version is the ability to burn a DVD.

I got it on eBay, and paid $10.00 for it...

So, this version "cannot" burn DVD's?

Is there a patch to update...

'Fraid not ... SE versions cannot be patched. However, they *can* be used as the basis of an upgrade price for the purchase of the full program -- in this case, VS12/X2. I would recommend the Pro version.

And while Black Lab is correct in saying that SE versions might not be able to burn DVDs, that was certainly true up to VS8 and possible also VS9, though I thought anything since could at least burn DVDs. However, it is still likely that the Wizard you are wanting to use is one of the things that is missing or has been crippled in your SE version. You might try simply to use the main Editor and burning module instead. It means doing manually what the Wizard would otherwise do fairly automatically. But you should be able to capture in DV format, edit in that format, convert it to a DVD-compatible mpeg-2, then open the burning module, insert that new mpeg-2, build your menu an burn (if indeed it has that option...) You will be able to tell if, in the main Editor, you choose Share > Create Disc, and there is a DVD option; and moreover, when you click it, it opens the burning module. Then you will know you should be able to burn a DVD (or not)...

In the "share" option, there is the choice of "Make Disc" So, this version can build DVD's...

The gallery of effects, animations, overlays etc. is "very limited." There seems to be only bare bones stuff included in this version.

However, when last time I used VS, we were up to version 8, which I also have... It was on the brink of VS 9 being released...

This version 10 is tons better than VS8; especially in it's handling of large video clips; much faster and more stable.

All this said however, I've been reading, and dreaming, about all the wonderful things I can do with X2; and so, in the end, I will no doubt upgrade... I need to do that before the 31st however to get the great deal... Thanks again for your kind help...
