I continue to experience many frequent crashes and am unable to finish a fairly large project. I have found that working with large projects is very problematic in DVDWS.
I am wondering if this has something to do with virtual memory paging. Windows seems to be increasing VM periodically during renders. This may have to do with bad memory management in DVDWS or memory leaks. I have my system set to 1.5-3Gig of VM and have 512M Ram.
I have read that others have experienced similar crashes and there seems to be a general concensus that the solution is to remove and reinstall DVDWS. I cannot understand how software can become corrupted to require a reinstallation. Surely there is something seriously wrong here. Perhaps ULEAD could offer an explanation so that those of us who are suffering with persistent crashes can atleast undersand why.
Please respond if you have similar problems.
Frequent Crashes and Virtual Memory
It is difficult to say what is causing your problem, especially as you give no details of your system, not even your OS or WS version or what you are doing when it happens. Render what to what? If you require use of virtual memory, it is probably because your physical memory is being used by other resident applications, sch as anti-virus, auto-backups, software firewalls, drivers, schedulers etc. Another frequent cause of such problems is insufficient space for temp files or, if you have virtual memory operating, for this.
It could also be due to weakness in the motherboard architecture, especially if you have VIA chipsets
As far as I'm aware, there is no serious memory leakage in WS2, otherwise everyone would have the same problem. I can have it working for days on end without a crash, and it never uses virtual memory (although I have 1 Gb RAM on my main video computer).
Like with many posts on these forums, you try to force us to second-guess what is happening. If you wish sensible answers, we need sensible questions. Sorry!
