.MTS and Divx Files

Post by markpritch »

Hi again guys
I've recently downloaded some .MTS files from a friend's Sony HD camcorder. When I bring them onto the timeline in VS Pro X2 the still images for each small clip appear perfectly ok re colour tones and textures.
When I play them in the 'EDIT' phase the blue and white colours turn various shades of yellow, the yellow colours turn blue and the skin tones are a gun-metal grey.
How can I overcome this?

On another minor point, my version of Pro X2 does not seem to recognise divx files when I try to insert videos into the timeline.
Should it be able to?
Cheers
Mark

I am not sure what to say about the .mts files since we know absolutely nothing about your computer. But that format is AVCHD, which is the most demanding of computer resources and you have to have at least a decent Core 2 Duo to be able to play them properly. So depending on your computer, that could be the source of your trouble. In addition, the .mts from different brand cameras tends to react differently since each of the manufacturers appears to have used their own proprietary tweaks in the codecs they use...

As for the DivX, is it by any chance high definition DivX? I ask because VS comes with an old 5 series DivX codec which was well before DivX moved into the high definition area. For that you would need to download the latest DivX community codec from the DivX website, if you don't own the pro version.

Hi Ken, thanks
I don't have Dual Core and my Medion PC is now about 5 years old with just 2.5meg of memory running on Pentium 4.
Since my previous post I have made a video file of a 26 second clip (Same as first video clip) and that contains the true colours of the original.
However there is no sound and some of the faster arm movements seem to leave a 'trial', if you follow what I mean. Is this all because of my PC?

I'm not sure about the divx format but I will have a look at their website.
many thanks
Mark

Since posting this I have been onto the divx website and can't see a seperate link to download the community codec but have installed the latest version of the divx 7 player which includes codec 6.8.5.
Is this what I should be using? If so, how do I link it to VS?
Thanks

A five year old P4 is simply not capable of playing AVCHD properly, I am afraid. A P4 3.0 Ghz with hyperthreading can just barely managing some editing, not not play it back properly. Believe me, I know from experience. And the Corel 'system requirements' makes this clear anyway for AVCHD.

As for DivX, I don't know why you couldn't find the latest 7 series codec. It is right there on http://www.divx.com/en/win up in the top right hand corner.

Thanks again, Ken
Guess I'm going to have to await a change of PC before I take HD seriously.

re divx, the link you have just directed me to is what I had previously installed, ie the whole programme which includes the codec I mentioned in the ps to my last message.
So I assume that having this latest codec (6.8.5) on my harddrive I can now bring divx media into the VS timeline but can you tell me how to link this codec to VS in order to achieve this?
cheers

Not necessarily. With your system you can't handle AVCHD, but you probably could handle HDV.

If you have DivX 6.8.5, see http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?p=167279#167279 to link it to VS.

However, there is in fact a Version 7 of the codec itself (I think it may already be 7.1) which I have just downloaded and installed. However, I have not yet found a way of getting X2 to recognise it...
