WinDVD 9 Update Failure

Post by jhvance »

I have WinDVD 9 (v9.0B14.132), and when I launched it several weeks ago there was a small notice that an "important" upgrade was available. So, I clicked on it which launched a separate updating window that began to download whatever update it thought was relevant, and instructed me to close the main program. I did so, and the update process seemed to move farther along until it produced a new window with a big red "X" that said the update wasn't appropriate for the version I had and it would abort.

Now when I boot the computer a window consistently pops up that says my WinDVD update is ready to install, and gives options of doing it then, waiting until the next time the application is launched, or to remind me again in a day or a week. However, if I allow that process to continue (in any of the various options) it always produces the same result -- deems it an inappropriate version and then aborts.

If there are currently no valid updates for the version I have installed, a) why did I get that message in the first place and more importantly b) how do I stop the flawed updating process from launching each time I boot up? FWIW, there doesn't seem to be anything specific in the Startup group for the process if I use MSCONFIG to look at those items.

The only other oddity I've noted on occasion is that when I launch WinDVD the opening window will come up and then disappear -- the program seems to crash, but if I relaunch it generally loads and then functions just fine. Thanks for any help and your insights.

Start WinDVD and in the top right corner is a small cogwheel.
Click this to bring up the setup dialog box.
At the bottom of the first tab is an option "Enable Auto Product Update"
make sure that this is not ticked.

I do have the very same problem. Although I can prevent it from showing me the message, this is not really a solution because I can't install the latest upgrade (I also get the version mismatch error everytime I try). What could be the reason of this message? First, it detects an upgrade for my version, then it realizes that the version is not compatible with the upgrade ...

The patch seems to be quite important, because since I bought WinDVD9 Plus Blu-Ray early this year, I was not able to play even one blu-ray disc. No matter what I try, audio playback pauses every 3 - 5 seconds, which makes the movie totally unwatchable. The only way I can watch a blu-ray disc is by first ripping it to the hard-drive and then watching it using media-player classic. Well, that's not what I bought WinDVD for (especially since there is no way to test the blu-ray functionality before you buy it!), and this patch is my last hope. Please help!

Thank you very much

P.S. audio drivers, graphic drivers, Quick-Time are all up to date.
