Hi there.
VS X2 and Sony HandyCam DCR-DVD608 & Vista Ultimate
When I try to capture through the USB connection directly into VS, I get an error message telling me that I do not have the driver installed or that no device is connected. This happens even though Windows Explorer opens the "K" drive and displays the content on the DVD. (The computer connection is active.)
I have previously installed the Sony software and imported is with the software but then all clips are converted to MPEG files ... and I don't want to have this as, in my newby opinion, there will be loss of quality.
Can someone please advise if my assumption is right and what must I do to ensure no loss of quality when capturing.
Regards,
Deon

This camcorder records directly to DVD, right? Try using the DVD Import feature. (I assume this is on the Capture screen, but I haven't upgraded to X2.) You should be able to import from drive K, or you can put the DVD in your computer's DVD drive and import from there.
DVDs are MPEG-2 encoded, so there should be no quality loss. When you import a DVD with Video Studio, you also get an MPEG-2 file... Importing simply "repackages" the data from the VOB files.I have previously installed the Sony software and imported is with the software but then all clips are converted to MPEG files ... and I don't want to have this as, in my newby opinion, there will be loss of quality.
