Is it possible to save a still image of a zoomed video clip?

Post by backert1 »

Ok, another still capture question. We'd like to use the capture function to create a still image from a video frame - when the video is zoomed. Whenever we try this, the resulting still image is the whole unzoomed image.....

Thanks,

How are you saving it? There are 2 options. Save As Still Image, or you go up to Clip>Save Frame as Image. I think the latter is what you want.

Hello Jeff,

Here is the answer. A couple of things that I noticed. First, the result is the same - complete size fram capture from both methods of saving (capture as still, and Clip-catpure frame). So no difference there. Second, This observation may hold the key to both this issue and the question of how do you save a zoomed clip... When you select the clip view in the video edit box, the clip plays full size - even if you have utlized a zoom effect on the timeline. The actual zoomed video is only displayed during project playback mode. The timeline placeholder also shows the full frame vidoe thumbnail rather than the zoomed vidoe thumbnail. Why are these things happening? Is there a way to actually show the "zoomed" frames and thumbnails in the clip modes and on the timeline? Am I missing a setup selection here?

Thanks,

Todd

Actually there is a third way to save a clip as a still image, and this will work for what you want. While in Project mode go to Tools>Save Current Frame As Image.

Outstanding!, the third method using the project mode - tools - capture frame works and preserves the zoom. I don't understand why this works only in on out of three possible ways.

So just for grins, is there any way to make the zoom appear in the preview window in clip mode or the timeline thumbnail always?

Thanks,

Todd
