Is it a dvd playing on a dvd player?
You may have used mono sound and the player only plays the other channel?
Try it on a pc.
You may have used a sound format that is incompatible with your player.
Try it on a pc.

If it doesn't work on a pc, then use avicodec or Gspot to analyse the file an tell you what audio if any is on there, you may have inadvertently turned off audio prior to buring.

Thank you for you attention. I am burning to DVD. It plays on a DVD player, eg on TV., but not on the PC. It would seem that Windows Media Player is not suitable for playing DVD'sproduced with VideoStudio Pro 2. Maybe I need to use another type of player which I have not got on my PC at present.
Thanks anyway

I can play DVDs produced by VS on WMP, but I have recently seen this problem being mentioned on the forum. Try a Google search for Media Player Classic, a free player that seems to play anything.

sounds like the codec used to make the audio cannot be found by WMP, what audio are you using? Or maybe the speakers and audio settings are set up correctly.

No Sound after burning DVD

Post by Robert Schulte »

Jeff, thanks for your help. Downloaded Media Player Classic and, yes, it plays sound. Quality not good, ticking etc. but seem to now understand that it is a codec that is required which is not available on Microsoft WMP. I wonder if there is an upgrade or whether I should render diffeently?
Thanks anyway, great help

Sorry, what audio format are you using in your dvd when you save it out?
If you don't know, you can use avicodec to find out.

Sound problem

Post by Robert Schulte »

Graham, thanks for trying to help. I am not a very advanced user as far as VideoStudio use and codecs go.   As far as I can establish when setting up a project, you can draw audio files into the project, by placing them on the audio line.  I have tried once drawing down an MP3 audio file and another time a WAV file.   All fine at that stage. Then when making/ burning DVD I am not sure what format VideoStudio converts the audio line into as it is burning.  You mention that I can find out by using Avicodec. Where do I get this and how do I run it to find out what VideoStudio is doing at what stage?

My first post has a link on how to use it along with a link to the programme.
You use the dvd file as the file to check, so pop it into the dvd drive and navigate to the files on it and choose one of the vobs.

I'm sure VS tells you what file format you are using, (sorry I don't use it) and if you are only using std templates then I'd have thought you'd have lpcm, mpeg or ac3, and the pc shouldn't have any trouble playing these.

Go back to the make dvd part of vs adn see what it says about audio.

I suppose now is the time to ask whether any dvds play sound on your pc?

No Music after DVD burn

Post by Robert Schulte »

Graham, you got it, thank you. From an amateur the answer was there the whole time, no DVD player application. Mine had been removed when I had a new hard drive installed. I reinstalled it, Arcade by Acer, and it all played, sound as well. Thank you so much and apologies for wasting your time, to all who helped. One satisfied amateur.
