VideoStudio 11.5 Plus failing to detect maximum write speed

VideoStudio 11.5 Plus is failing to detect my DVD-ROM's maximum write speed. VideoStudio 11.5 Plus has come to the conclusion that the drive has a maximum write speed of 4X, but the drive has the ability to write at 8X.
The drive is a Pioneer DVR-107D. It uses the latest firmware.

Why could this be happening?

What is the maximum write speed of the discs you are using?
