Multi-Trim very slow

Hello,

Have a 500 mb .AVI file and when I choose Multi-Trim and select 30 - 45 seconds to trim out I can play the video within the Multi-Trim window but when I click OK it takes 10 - 15 minutes until I can work with it within my project. I then SAVE this clip which is then inserted in the proper timeline of the project.

Have no PC issues, XP SP2, 3.0GHz processor, plenty of memory, virus and spam up-to-date protected, and plenty of disk space. This process is the only thing that is really bothersome so far.

Thank you,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

A 500Mb avi tells me that it is probably an Xvid or DivX video file, is that correct? If so then you will just need to be patient, because they are highly compressed, unlike DV. Is your 3.0Ghz processor just a single-core? If so then it just takes everything it can muster to deal with highly compressed video files.

The only other suggestions I can offer is to shut down everything that is not absolutely necessary for running VS. No antivirus, anti-spyware, internet, nothing but the bare-bone basic. You might want to review Steve's tutorial on Creating a Video Editing Profile.

Should I convert the .AVI to MPEG then multi-trim

It might make it easier to do, easier on your PC. If you do convert it, and your going to make a video DVD, then be sure to convert it to DVD Compliant MPEG-2. That way it will not recoded again when you burn to disc..
