Unable to add chapters in VS Pro X2
I have converted my video project to a single MPEG2 file. Using SHARE>create disc > dvd>add media:add video files, I import the mpeg2 file which appears at the bottom of the window. "use first clip as introductory video" is NOT checked. The screen remains black and the controls for it are greyed out. Clicking on "add edit chapters" opens the corresponding window but the only option is "auto add chapters", which is not what I want to do. Again the screen is black and the controls are greyed out. In any case, when I selected the auto add option, after a few seconds I got a "Video Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close" message

If you want to manually add chapters, then you need to manually advance the video. Do this by moving the Jog Bar to the position where you want to add a chapter marker. Once you move it to at the minimum of 2 seconds, the Add Chapter button will be activated. You can also use the Jog Wheel or the Fast Forward/Fast Rewind controls.

I thought your blank screen was just that the preview window was black, which would just be a black start of a clip. Since there are other problems there, go HERE and download the latest MS Direct-X drivers. The most current is dated March 2009. This seems to fix several problems with VS. There have been others reporting similar problems in the burn module, and updating DirectX corrected it.
