If you normally obtain your mpeg files from AVI files, then you are not exposed to the frame redundancy bug as no smart rendering ─of existing mpeg files─ is involved.
Have you successfully authored any mpeg files with VS 8? If so, they may be incompatible with your third-party authoring app. VideoStudio closes the first GOP in each mpeg file it encodes from one or more AVI clips and leaves all other GOPs open. In order to have all GOPs closed, try the following:
1. Click the Advanced button in the Compression tab of the Video Save Options dialog box. If you see no such button, you will have to activate it first by closing VideoStudio and adding the line Advance=1 at the end of both the [MPEGVIO] and [VIODRIVER] sections in the file uvs.ini under \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\8.0.
2. Click the Video Settings tab of the MPEG Output Settings box, set "Close GOP every... GOPs" to 1 and click the OK button to return to the Video Save Options dialog box.
I hope this will make your mpeg files compliant with your 3rd-party app.

Hi Alosada
Many THANKS for the reply! Yes, I have successfully authored MPEG files with VS 8, and even put one on a DVD recently with that 3rd party app. However, that MPEG was just a slide show with music. No chapters. Nothing fancy. I did NOT get this "open GOP" message with that, for some strange reason.
Hmmmm, now that I think about it, that slide show was not a conversion from AVI. It was created straight from VS 8 into MPEG. The next DVD I want to author has MANY video files (at least 20) and they were all created from AVI files.
What you suggest makes sense. I'll give it a try and hope it works. If it does, great. If it doesn't, thanks for offering a suggestion anyway!
I'll post here what happens after trying your suggestion.
Regards,
LGO

Alosada . . .
Well, I tried your suggestion with no luck. I never could get the ADVANCED button to appear in the Video Save Options dialog box, even after changing the ini file as you suggested.
Attached is an image of the dialog box I receive - with or without the change to the ini file.

Did I need to reboot the system after changing the ini? (I can't imagine why, but I guess it's a possibility). Any other ideas how to get to the ADVANCED button in the Video Save dialog box?
Many thanks,
LGO

LGO:
There is no need to reboot your computer to make the Advanced button visible; just make sure you close VS first and relaunch it after you have edited the uvs.ini file in the right directory.
Also, please make sure you type Advance=1 (not Advanced=1) in a new line after the last in the [MPEGVIO] and [VIODRIVER] blocks of the file and that you actually save it after altering.
Good luck!

OK, great post with lots of sound (no pun intended) technical description and explanation. Thanks for the original work and also for pulling this back to the top.
At least in my case, there is STILL an AUDIO OOS PROBLEM with VS9 but it is not the FR problem discussed in detail here. The VS9 OOS problem that I have is with GRADUAL OOS. Capturing DV AVI file via IEEE-1394 interface. Captured DV AVI file plays completely in sync over entire 1.5 hour duration (using either Windows MediaPlayer or VS9 to replay).
Edit that file (trim out a few spots of unwanted material, not adding any transitions, effects, etc). Create an NTSC DVD video file for eventual burning to DVD and every one of them has detectable audio OOS after some period of time (I've noticed it for sure on anything > 30 minutes, could be shorter but haven't really looked for exact point).
ULEAD tech support has not been able to correct the problem. Only suggestion was to turn off all background programs during process. Tried that, absolutely no change in results.
So my question is whether there is anyone that has more detailed knowledge about how GRADUAL OOS occurs in this scenario and what steps can be taken to eliminate the causes.
Thanks!

I have added the first three posts into the "Downunder perspective" Wiki - so new users reading the "Recommended Procedure" will stumble across this information. I have placed it on the main menu page as "I have Audio/video sync problems".
I have also included a link to the thread - the duplication of the 3 first posts are just in case the thread ever gets deleted for any reason.
So hopefully this will get around the problem of having to push the post to the top or duplicate the information in the top posting

THE SOLUTION !
Hi All !
I am not a technical person in Multimedia Field.
I read this thread and understood why this problem occurs, but couldn´t get a easy approach for me to solve the problem.
But I found the answer ! I tryed and yes it solved my problem !
I spent abt 3 hours researching, using Ulead software I would get audio out of sync but using movie maker from microsoft it would be okay !
Check this out...the easy way to handle the problem is probably here (for me it worked) :
