Best Ulead video-editing software for Sony Mini-DVD camcorde

Post by flahagan »

I know I purchased the wrong type of camcorder for video-editing, but now I'm stuck for awhile.
I like to incorporate still photos, video clips and audio into DVD movies that can be played in a standard DVD player. I especially like to do this for special trips, weddings, etc. and give them as gifts.
I downloaded a free trial Ulead program several years ago and after much trial, effort and tears got a beautiful finished product that was 43 minutes of sheer beauty! Now I'm ready to purchase.
What software would be suitable for me? I have Windows XP2. I want the software to include the capability to burn to standard DVD. I know I'm not using the right terms, but I'm hoping someone can understand what my needs are and advise me. Thanks so much from this grandmother.

I don't know what leads you to believe you have the wrong camera type for video editing. As far as I'm concerned, Mini DV is just about the most rock-solid type there is for video editing.

As far as what software, VideoStudio is primarily an editor with some DVD authoring capabilities. DVD Movie Factory is primarily a DVD authoring program with some video editing capabilities.

The will both do what you want. It's just a matter of how much you want to do.

I wish I DID have a mini-DV. Unfortunately, no, I have a mini-DVD camcorder. You know, the little discs that are almost impossible to edit in a program. That's why I need advice, as I know most software does not even allow you to import from a DVD camcorder.

I'm sorry, I misread it.

But I know VS can import from a DVD camcorder. Simply finalize your disc, insert it into your PC, and choose Import from DVD (may be the wrong term - don't have VS on this computer).

Import From Digital Media is the terminology used in VS X2.

One more question. Do I need a "burner" software to burn to standard dvds if I purchase the VS Pro, or is it complete? I see that there are "bundles" on sale that include VS11 and 11 Plus that include DVD Copy 6. Still a little confused as to which software I need.

Jeff,

You're suggesting I get the VS X2, not the PRO X2, correct? I just see where to purchase the Pro, and I think that's much more than what I need. We don't have HD, Blue-Ray, etc. As long as I can import from my DVD camcorder and burn to video DVD, I'll be a happy camper.

VS Pro has other features besides Blu-Ray and HD, but if you are just going to do basic editing then X2 will probably suffice. You can always upgrade to X2 Pro at a later time.
