Alludo USER to USER Web Board

Hi, new to this forum have a Canon HV 30 camcorder and a Gateway PC with Vista 64 bit and 8 Gig memory and a ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphic card.

My question is this will My PC or camcorder work with Video Studio Pro X2 as far as capturing my HD DVD tapes and editing?

There are several discussions concerning Canon's HV camcorders. Ken Berry, one of the Site Admins owns the HV20, and uses VS Pro. Doing a search using the keywords "Canon AND HV30" or "Canon AND HV20", in the VideoStudio forum, and Popular Products, then place Ken Berry in the author's box you should get a few results.

What I've picked up from these discussions is that there may be problems recording back to the camcorder. However there shouldn't be problems capturing and editing.

And yes, the simple answer is that VS12/X2 can handle the output of your HV30 easily and well. Make sure you capture using Firewire. And certainly your computer will have no trouble. In fact, you could edit HDV from the camera using an older P4 computer with only average resources and VS10+ (with a special patch produced for that version for Canon users.)

Vidoman mentioned a problem exporting edited HDV back to the camera, and that is true of VS11+ and 12. In fact, I use VS10+ with the patch to do it, and it works well. But if you don't intend to export back to the camera, this will not affect you. All other aspects of HDV editing are done well and the final quality is superb.

So far ny cam is in the shop for the 1394 port, perhaps it's corrupt will you please check my UCp or what ever it's called to make sure that my PC is capable of capturing from the HV30.

By the way received the Corel Video Studio Pro X2 software and installed it on my 64 bit, have to wait until I get the cam back and keep my fingers crossed.

I do like the Corel flow of the editing and so forth.

The patch referred to was a patch for VideoStudio v10. If you don't have v10 you don't have to worry about it.

Your computer is more than capable of dealing with HDV from the HV30 -- a much less powerful computer could also do it, as I already suggested. The only thing is that the computer must have a Firewire card for capture, and I see you are dealing with that!

New senerio, Rats, going nuts here and to make a long story short just found out that my Canon HV30 is not usable so going shopping again for a HD camcorder, my questions is what Camcorder is compatible with Video Studio Pro X2? In the price range $600-$850 or so was thinking of the Canon HF20 but the reviews stated that it¡¦s hard to edit in AVCHD.
