Problem uninstalling PI X3

Post by RedIndy »

I want to unininstall PI X3 but when I click the uninstall button in Windows remove programs I get a dialog screen saying: an other version of PI X3 is installed, first remove etc.
I don't understand this because I am not installing anything I just want to remove the program.
Also I saw that there is not any regular uninstall file with the program so I cannot uninstall it from the program folder.
So how to uninstall this program?

Check to see if there are any utilities running such as CorelIOmonitor.exe. If so you need to shut them down before trying to uninstall. Also make sure that you're in a Admin user account on your PC.

I also had the same problem. What I did was to rename the folder in Program Files, then went to Add or Remove in Control Pannel and this time it worked to a certain extent.
It appears that registry information has been removed but the actual folder and contents had to be removed manually.

Steve, thanks for the link.

In my opinion, the best thing is for Corel to fix the problem in the application

Thanks for all the answers and reactions to my question!
I finally got rid of the program by using an uninstall program called Revo.
It is a freeware that lets you uninstall any program completely.
http://www.revouninstaller.com/

The reason why I want to uninstall X3 is that I don't like the feel of the interface.
Corel has, to my point of view, done a very bad job here.

Since many years I have been a reasonably contented user of Ulead Photo Impact and have used many versions since PI 5.
That¡¦s why I thought it to be a good idea to buy the latest version 'X3'.

But I am wondering if it really is an improvement because right from the start I am running into this really nasty problem!
It is about the toolbox.
When I use for example the ¡¥path drawing tool¡¦ I get 4 options.
Normally it should be easy to switch between the different options but for some reason now it is not that easy anymore.
Just clicking doesn¡¦t work, the selected option stays on and you can¡¦t switch.
For as far as I was able to find out it only works when the whole block of options is ¡¥undocked¡¦, only than you can click and switch options.
I am wondering why this is because I think it¡¦s quite cumbersome.

On the whole: I don't like the feel of the new interface.
So I switched back using Photo Impact 12 again!
Also I am still using PI5 which has been on my computer since many years and still proves to be a good program that can very easily be reinstalled. (Btw. I use many Ulead programs like Media Studio 8, Video Studio 11.5, Cool 3 D, Gif Animator etc.)

RedIndy, I share your opinion about Corel PI X3. That is the reason I went back to Ulead PI 12. I'm still using Ulead software, mostly MediaStudio 7. I like the feel of it's interphase better that v.8
