I am not able to use the Cool 3D 3.5 version because of poor performance of previews - the object styles do not move at all.
If for example I click on "Textures", it takes about one second per item to be displayed! Moving objects (like the Bevel ones) are not moving at all.
The configuration: XP SP2 (all latest updates), Nvidea FX5600, DirectX 9.0c, 1 GB memory (600MB free), Athlon XP 1800+ CPU (CPU usage below 10%). "Filemon" does not show any activity on the file system.
This really sucks and I would like to know if anybody else sees these issues. The demo version with less objects did not show this poor performace - otherwise I would never had bought this product.
The other thing that I saw is that the software easily takes more than 200 MB of memory for pretty simple objects... Only on my computer??
Any input appreciated.
Tom

Make sure you have the latest nVidia Geforce driver installed, you can download it from nVidia web site.
The default nVidia driver in Windows XP is not DirectX 8/9 compatible and will have some unpredictable issues to be happened when you run COOL 3D or COOL 3D Production Studio.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Thanks for the tip - I already installed the latesr driver. Unfortunately without any success. To doublecheck that it is not related to the graphic card, I installed the product on a second PC with a Matrox graphic card and had the exactly same issue.
To me it looks like the poduct quality nowadays really sucks. I recently bought three Ulead products (cool 3D, animation applets and menu applets). All three of them cause problems. Animation applets won't run at all, menu applets is buggy and I already mentioned the cool 3D issues.
There is not even an answer to my support requests - this was definitely the last time that I purchased Ulead products.

Cool3D version 3.5 and prior must render these gallery objects at least once after you install the product. Let it grind all the way through until the objects start moving freely (I know its painful). The good thing is Cool3D saves these renderings so that the next time you bring up that particular gallery item, the rendering is already done and the objects move freely as expected.TomUSA wrote:I am not able to use the Cool 3D 3.5 version because of poor performance of previews - the object styles do not move at all.

If you have the BOX version then the gallery preview cache will be installed with COOL 3D. If you are using the download version then it will need to render the preview cache as klowther said.
Hope this helps.

Ken,
Thanks for the info. It is great that they safe on the bandwidth requirements to really make a product a pain in the butt. Even the standard help file is not included in the download version.
I do not understand how a company can allow such a poor product delivery. If I download something, I expect it to be working and pretty much the same version that I buy at the local shop (at least if I pay - like with Ulead on the web - the same amount of Dollars...). Grrr....
