VS10 not capturing AVCHD from Sony HDR-SR11E HD Camcorder.

Hi,
Could anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong?
Can I capture from a Sony High Definition Camcorder using VS10?

I've previously been using a MiniDV camcorder with VS10 ok. (Had been using a firewire cable at the time though).

I've now upgraded to a Sony Hi Definition camera but Ulead VS10 doesn't seem to find it. I go to Capture Video but get the error
"Either no video capture driver is installed in the system, or no device is connected".

However I can see the camera ok using the supplied "Sony Browser or Player software", and can used it to extracted and save the HD video to the PC.

Not sure, but I suspect it's got something to do with using USB instead of firewire, (but theres no mention of ussing Firewire in the user guide :? ??).
Do I need to install drivers or firmware?
Or is it best just to invest in something like VS Pro x2?

The camera I'm using is a Sony HDR-SR11E Camcorder.
And connect using the supplied USB 2 cable.
Recording in AVCHD format.
I am running:
MS Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

I Appreciate any help.
Douglas

First, your camera is an AVCHD model, so it captures via USB cable and using a command in the main VS Editor under 'Insert Video' rather than 'Capture'.

However, your main problem is that VS10/10+ will not 'capture' or otherwise edit AVCHD. The latter format emerged when VS10 had already been released, so it was not until VS11+ emerged that it could deal with that format.

Mind you, there are quite a range of problems even then, and VS X2 still has problems with some aspects of editing, and even playing back, AVCHD smoothly. In the first place, you have to have a fairly powerful computer -- at least a decent Core 2 Duo. Even to use VS 11 and 12's SmartProxy feature with AVCHD, you need at least a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz with hyperthreading... And the latter still won't play back AVCHD smoothly...

Oh Drats! :x
I wish someone told me that before I bought the stupid camera.
Anyway, have you any recommendations on software which claims to be able to export / convert the HD footage to WMV or AVI video format?
I've just Google'ed and came across VoltaicHD which claims the footage would still be in HD.
