creating the best quality wmv movie ?
Hello,
After trying so hard I really need help here...
I create screen savers from wmv movie files in another program called Screensaver Factory (I was recommended to use wmv format for larger distribution/compatibility of my screen savers...). About a year ago, I created in VS 11 an excellent quality wmv movie file and now that I have edited a new movie (made of jpeg and animated texts only; I use Video Studio because of the cool animated titles feature that doesn't exist in the Screensaver Factory software) but unfortunately I just cannot render it in a wmv movie with the same sharpness as my one year ago project; all what I can say is that the old movie has the following: Frame 1280x720, Data rate 4460 kbps and Frame rate 29fr/sec.; the Audio bitrate was 137 kbps but anyway, I don't need any audio, as I am adding the music to the images in Screensaver Factory.
Again, the new project (that I have tried in VS 12, the trial version, also to see if I could get better results but I didn't) is being edited with exactly the same kind of files and is even a couple of minutes shorter than the old project and in all the options under "Create Video File" in VS11 (and VS12 too !) I cannot find anymore the right settings to produce a good quality wmv movie again.
Please, someone advise me, WHICH and WHERE are the best OPTION/SETTINGS under "Create Video File" to render my project in the best quality/smallest size wmv movie possible ?? (I think I know that I should render the project in a first format at first, WHICH one...? and then convert this movie file into wmv but with the BEST SETTINGS, right ?...)
Thank you very much.

Hi
Using VS 10 from Share Create Video File I see :-
WMV HD Pal 1280 X 720, 25 frames / sec
I see no reason why you cannot see this option in X2 even if it is the trial version.
(I am using Pal)
Also under the ¡¥Custom option¡¦ I see further options.
Select Custom¡XSave Type as¡XWindows media video.
Choose the Options button¡XProfile tab¡Xthere are many options here including HD.

Best rendering choice for a WMV movie
Thank you for trying to help,
I did not use PAL because I am in the US but I don't think that's a problem because I am not burning my screensavers on DVD, I make .exe files for people to download from my website, then install and show on their pc...
I cannot use HD either because it is abnormally stretching some of my pictures horizontally...
Here is the list in the options that I have in Videostudio 11 (that don't seem to be different from Videostudio 12 btw):

-NTSC DV (16:9)

... I don't think that I have to care much about the Kbps, for people who will download my screen saver will play that movie on their computer and won't need any internet connection... so, again, which one from all these option(s) above would be the best to render my project into a WMV movie? My old first WMV movie that came out very sharp with the same type of files/project rendered in Ulead (as I said it was even longer in time) has a Frame size of 720x480 and shows also "NTSC DVD" in its properties... and I cannot find that same settings in Videostudio anymore...

Why don't you right click on your "old first WMV" and copy down all the properties here.
If it says it is NTSC DVD then it is not WMV, as DVD must be MPEG-2.

Hi
Your post is titled creating the best quality wmv movie
That is why you were directed to WMV HD option, you don¡¦t need best quality.
For viewing on your pc the " Broadband (NTSC, 700 Kbps) or (" Broadband (NTSC,1400 Kbps) may be a better.
I think you have to do some trials here to see which option is suitable for your .exe files regarding size and download times.

WMV better quality (no HD)
yes, you are right, I do not need HD quality...sorry,
you tell me to try with customized WMV NTSC 700 and 1400 kbps, but the frame size will come out at 320x240 apparently... my old project, that I try to reproduce the settings, has a frame size of 1280x720 and in the custom choices of my VS11, I doesn't allow me to change the frame size (frame sizes are in grey=cannot be selected or changes with other numbers)...

Hi
Sorry about the broadband reference, I didn¡¦t check the frame sizes.
1280 x 720 is a HD frame size. (16:9 Widescreen)
If you need to use this aspect then your project properties should also use 16:9
You show your project settings as using 4:3. This is almost certainly why you get squashed clips.
File- Project Properties-Edit-General tab. Change the aspect to 16:9
You will have to re-edit your project, titles and image arrangements.
I would then render the project to NTSC-DV 16,9 , this will produce a top quality AVI file at 13 Gb per hour.
Convert this to a lower file size.
Try WMV HD1280 x 720, the files should not squash but keep their proportions.
Also try Div X using the 720hd option, this option should produce smaller files for a similar quality.
(Custom ¡V AVI files ¡V Options ¡V AVI tab ¡V compression = DivX¡XConfigure¡X720hd profile.)
You may need to change the frame size from the General tab.
I have just run a test and the files are about a quarter size compared to WMV. (Div X comes out best for me.)
You should have good quality with no squashing/distortions.

not good results with wmv rendering yet
Hi,
Thank you for trying to help; I am not sure you understood that the new project has nothing to do with the old one, just I want to get the same results... (?) I did what you said though; after changing the ration from 4:3 to 16:9, I rendered the project to a NTSC DV 16.9.avi but it still shows playing with a black band at the top and the bottom of the screen (plus on the left and right while there was a picture with an horizontal pan and zoom effect added to it)...
Also, I am sorry, I cannot find the option that you say "WMV HD1280 x 720" anywhere; could you tell me please from all the options I had copied in my precedent posts, which one it is ?...

Hi
First of all there should be no black band at the top and bottom that forms part of the frame.
You will see a black band but this is the unused portion of the preview screen.
Please View:- http://uk.geocities.com/trevor.andrew@b ... 9/16_9.htm
This shows what widescreen should look like when using video studio.
From Share Create Video File I see:-

If you do not see the WMV options, (not sure why its missing) but try updating your Windows Media Player to the latest version.
Are you able to select the Div X option i mentioned?

videostudio 11, which best rendering option for wmv movie ?
Hello,
Using Videostudio 11 and NTSC, among all the options that I have copied entirely in one of my previous posts here (Wed Apr 22, 2009 2:35 am), sorry, but there is none the same as you show me I'm afraid ;-(
About the difference between ration 4:3 and 16:9 I believe I understood, thank you, and I'm looking for making a wmv in 4:3 still because otherwise my pictures all stretched horizontally anyway (remember I am only using a serial of jpeg in my project...)
