Photo X2 keeps crashing

Post by Starchild89 »

I know there are already threads about this. But none of those options that they use are helping me.

X2 has never froze or crashed on me before and for the past week it's been acting up. I will be trying to make a wallpaper. I have three images merged into one and I'm trying to add lyrics to a song on it and it freezes and then crashes down.

I have nothing in my Temp folder. I usually check that once a week and I just emptied it last night.

I am running a Dell 4600C
I have Version 12.01 of X2

I'm not sure what the other system info you may need. But if you need anything else please let me know.

I think the two most likely culprits are a bad font, or a corrupt or damaged registry setting or cache file.
You can reset the registry and the cache by going to File > Preferences > Reset Preferences, select the first five options, and click 'OK'.
Finding a dodgy font can take a bit of time. It might not be the font that you're currently using... the crash could be caused by PSP making the sample of the bad font for the font list when you use the text tool. If you've added any fonts to Windows recently, one of those would be a likely candidate.
Otherwise you will need to move all of the fonts that didn't come with Windows to another folder. A list of standard XP fonts is here and the Vista list is here.
Once you have moved all the non-Windows fonts out of the Font folder, try running PSP and using the Text Tool. If it works OK then chances are that a bad font was the problem.
Now you need to narrow it down to which font is the problem...
Close PSP.
Add half the fonts back to the Windows font folder.
Test PSP with the text tool.
If it crashes, take those fonts back out and try with the other half. If it doesn't crash, the bad font is still in the other folder.
Keep adding half the remaining fonts from the other folder to the Windows font folder and testing PSP. If it doesn't crash the bad font is still in the other folder, if it does crash, swap the fonts you just added back with the ones that are still in the other folder. Eventually you will be left with just the bad font in the other folder.

Okay Thanks. I'll give it a shot later. It crashed again earlier when I was trying to make a new wallpaper for my phone and I had no text in it.
I'll let you know what happens.

Edit: That was the problem. It was a bad font. Thanks for the info
