I am an occasional user of DVDVMF4 and (made the mistake of?) downloaded DVDMF6+ trial. Since then (and the trial has expired) DVDMF4 will not load. It loads the menu screen but clicking any option results in a diagolge box which merely states "A key error" and then returns to the menu screen.
How can I get DVDMF4 to work again? And is this a cynical marketing ploy by Corel/Ulead?
DVDVMF4 no longer works "A key error"!

I would suspect you need to re-install it, or at least do a repair install. Ulead and now Corel, products use Common Files. They are found at ~Program Files>Common Files>Ulead Systems. Sometimes when you install a newer version of software, it replaces older files. This can cause problems with older versions. Generally though muliple versions of Ulead programs get along well. I've noticed this more with VS and Flashplayers. When you uninstall a newer version it might take some files with it, that the older version was using. How can I get DVDMF4 to work again?
Now when re-installing you need to remove or at least rename the Ulead Systems folder found in the Common Files folder. This will force DVD MF to replace all those files. If DVD MF finds newer file versions, it may not replace them with the older ones.
No, I seriously doubt Corel would stoop such a low level of marketing. And is this a cynical marketing ploy by Corel/Ulead?

I suspect you are right vidoman! I am now away to see if I can find my install file (was originally downloaded) plus the couple of patch files and my Licence number - quite difficult since I have moved house recently. I guess that the install file is no longer available since Ulead no longer provide maintenance on this version - so keep fingers crossed.
If that fails I have an old hard drive (still installed) with my old system on (including a working DVDMF4) if I copied all of the files from the program files/common files/Ulead and program files/ulead/dvdmf4 directories would that work - or would I be screwed by an trailing registry entries?

I am afraid that the cynic in me is winning!
Having copied old files and not moved the problem, I decided that the "key" error must be a registry key, so I used system restore to go back. A few tries later - still the same problem, so I went right back to before DVDMF6 was installed. Hey presto it now works!! So I strongly suspect that the DVDMF6 trial screwed up the registry keys for DVDMF4.
Now my only problem is getting everything else back to current levels.
