24Mb/s hybrid DVD
Did somebody already create a hybrid DVD with Canon 24Mb/s footage? Does the disc playback on e.g. a PS3 player?

It is a Canon AVCHD camera with the new AVCHD standard of 24 Mbps? Or a HDV mpeg-2 camera which uses a CBR of 25 Mbps? I am assuming the former -- in which case I cannot say for sure. I have the latter, which makes a fine AVCHD hybrid disc from the HDV input, but cutting down the bitrate to 18 Mbps which is what the template allows...
If indeed you have an AVCHD 24 mbps camera, then I suspect the answer is yes, you can still make a hybrid disc, but the available template will limit you to a mximum bitrate of 18 mbps. I am not sure that VS in any version is ready for the 24 mbps standard -- though I could be wrong.
The quality of the 18 mbps hybrid is nonetheless excellent, and I rather doubt you would notice any substantial drop in quality. And yes, hybrid discs play perfectly on a PS3.
The only other thing I can think of is that using a bitrate of 18 mbps, I can fit only about a maximum of 20 minutes of editing video on a hybrid disc. So if in fact you could use the 24 mbps setting, then you could probably fit no more than about 13 or maybe 14 minutes on a single layer DVD. I personally can deal with 20 minutes, but I am not sure much less than that will meet many people's usual project length...

Thanks Ken for your reply. I have now Sony SR11 AVCHD camcorder (16M VBR...16M specified as "average" for the HQ setting). I have no problems to create hybrid DVD's, but I was looking to the new Canons (just in case...) and was wondering if this camcorder would be a good option for my X2Pro. And indeed, less than 20 minutes is really short in case 24 Mbs would be X2Pro compatible. So, wait and see...
