File Error 0:0:416 - need help

Post by jolo »

PhotoImpact X3 - 13.1.00.00
File Error 0:0:416

This only occurs when I use PhotoImpact and not with my other photo errors.
I input a .JPG file that IS NOT read only or hidden. I then make some edits.
When I go to save it back to disk, I get an error window, even if I try to use save the file with a different name and/or a different file folder.
I am trying to save it back as a JPG file, the same file type as the original file that was input into PhotoImpact.
The error window says
Photoimpact
File Error
0:0:416

However, when I save the file as a .UFO file, it works !!
I found that out because I didn't want to lose my edits, so I wanted to see if the file can be saved in PhotoImpact's own proprietary format.
This happens all of the time and has led me to do a lot of photo editing with some inferior products.

Thanks very much in advance.

Most error messages are written for programmers/developers of the specific programs and have no meaning to us lay persons. I've not seen that error with PI.

Where did the JPG image come from? I know Steve discovered that Toshiba laptops have a big problem with JPG images. By chance are you using a Toshiba laptop?

What I always do when working on images in any of my programs, is to duplicate the image, and edit the duplicate not the original. This way if something really goes wrong I don't loose my original. So my workflow in PI is open the image, then I press [CTL] + D this creates the duplicate in PI's proprietary loss-less format of UFO. I then close the original, and proceed to work on the duplicate. Once finished I then can choose what format I want to export it to. I also will save the UFO file, in case I want to return to it and change some things..
