Can I edit the DVD menu's background picture?

Post by motor1 »

Using VS12
I would like to find the original picture from one of the DVD template background, edit it and then re-load it as a background picture.
I don't seem to find it, can anyone help me out?
The template is (as I see it) composed by an .ufo file and another text document.
Should I open the whole template using some other software? If yes, any suggestions?

Thanks

.ufo is a Corel Photo Impact file so I guess you will need that program to edit it. You could always downlload a trial version to try it out! Heree's a link to the download:

Two links:

Tutorial: PhotoImpact: Creating DVD Menu from scratch
VS9 & PI11: Creating a Custom DVD Menu Layout

BUT

You don't need to go to that amount of trouble if all you want is a different background. Simply select the [EDIT] Tab and select a new background.

Thanks guys,

It is true that I only need a different background picture and is simple to change it, but I want to be somehow consistent regarding Main Menu and Chapters Menu's, so that is the reason I wouldn't go for other background.
The one I want to modify suits my project the best and I HAVE to edit it.
I really hopped that it has to be a .jpg file somewere, but it seems to be embeded in the menu.
I will try PhotoImpact.

I dont use VS 12 but out of interest, which menu template are you referring to.?

You could of course use a screen capture, then an image editor to crop and edit the image.

It is one of the Thumbnails Menus, (can not recall the exact name because i am at work now).
For Chapters Menu is just fine, but for the Main Menu, there isn't too much of thumbnails there (only a couple links toward Chapters Menu and Deleted Scenes), that's why I have to insert a picture, and keep all the buttons and background in place.
Last night I was able to open it with PhotoImpact, not too happy about how a inserted picture fade out there, but if that thoesn't work out well, from PhotoImpact I can save the background and edit it somewere else.

I also encountered another little problem, in which these menus are limited in terms of adding extra text on them, but here it comes PhotoImpact to solve it.

I'll go through the Tutorial to familiarize with some tricks now.
Thanks again!
