DVD MF 6 feature clarification

Post by DiscCoasterPro »

Hi, I may have asked these or similar questions in the past, but I'm sorry, I guess age is taking over memory. I do some work for a fellow who has many VHS tapes that have to be converted to DVD. I use my Canopus 300 and I've been using DVDWS2.

For whatever reason I have been totally tortured over the year with what seems to be some type conflict between my NLE (adobe) and DVDWS that resembles a field order jitters issue.

No other authoring program has issue with imports from my NLE except DVDWS. I've checked all the settings in WS I know of for LFF and I give up.

I'm assuming that DVDMF will act perfectly in terms of no jitters as do all other authoring programs I've experimented with so, I'm about ready to make a move from DVDWS .... it's a shame.

Anyway. My needs are minimal but necessary.

1. First play feature

2. Ability to import custom buttons and use graphics and photos as buttons. ( I'd love to import the DVDWS buttons I've been using I use that scene board clapper graphic all the time in WS)

3. Scalable and movable buttons and text

4. Text color and style options

5. No need for menu templates but I would like to use a video frame capture for a background to build my menu on.

6. Some type of feature as in DVDWS that lets you know what quality level is needed to fit your DV-AVI clip after it is converted to mp2 before you go through all the converting process. In other words will it tell you the video is too big for the bitrate settings and will it allow adjustments before you find out the hard way. :)

thanks!

MovieFactory does all that except item 2 (For which you will need PhotoImpact).
You achieve Item 2 by following the method outlined here
DVD Text only Navigation buttons (PhotoImpact)

thanks for the reply. Is photoimpact like photoshop or other digital photo editors?

What do I do in photoimpact? Convert file types and create the button graphics?

Also, is there a way to convert/import DVDWS buttons?

I'm happy to see I can freely resize and place buttons and text anywhere in the program.

edit .. I've read the tutorial link you provided, wow I suppose everything is easy if you understand what you're doing.

Is the purpose of the duplicate step to allow active and inactive colors of the image?

How do these graphics react to resizing? Do the letters stretch out very thinly?

Sorry, one more thought. Can these buttons and text be made partially transparent like DVDWS allows?
