Hello all, I am having a very frustrating time with VS12, firstly a number of the 3D transition effects appear to be unusable as they seem to freeze/crash the program when I attempt to render my video. Secondly when I am at the point where I want to add chapters to my video and attempt to use the Auto Add Chapter feature the entire program crashes and shuts down. I have tried this with the Share feature straight from the VS Editor (to create disc) as well as using a rendered MPEG2 video in Movie Wizard and in both instances the Auto Add Chapters option results in a crash!
Please help!!!
I have just recently upgraded to VS12 X2 Pro and am using a newly installed XP SP3 OS.

Welcome to the Forums,
First we are going to need some more information. Please view This Thread, it provides a guideline to the specific information needed to help you.
When you reinstalled your OS, did you by chance ensure that you have the latest DirectX installed? It is not a part of the auto-updates for Windows. You must manually download and install it. Go HERE and download the latest MS Direct-X drivers. The most current is dated March 2009.

Thanks
Hi thanks for the response. Yes I have installed the latest DirectX version.
I have updated my profile to provide details of the system that I am using. The source files for the video were a combination of the following profiles:
Video Type: MPEG-2 Video, Upper Field First
Attributes: 24Bits, 720 x 576, 16:9
Frame rate: 25fps
Data rate: Variable bit rate (Max 9100kbps)
Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1
The above was the profile for the majority of the video clips. In addition there were some clips incorporated into the project which were from another camera with the following profile:
Video Type:MPEG-1 Video
Attributes: 24Bits, 640 x 480
Frame rate: 30fps
Data rate: Variable bit rate
Audio: MPEG Audio Layer 2 Files
The total project length is about 2hr 15min and was all edited in VS12. Once editing was completed I chose to share and create a DVD Disc (intended to put on a D/L DVD). However as previously stated when I went to add chapters via Auto Add Chapters in the DVD output dialogue box the program crashed. I repeated this operation a number of times with the same result. I then created a PAL-DVD video file (with no problems) and loaded that in the Movie Wizard application and again tried to auto Add chapters again with the same result.
Also it was in this project that I incorporated a few of the 3D transitions and album transitions and when I tried to output to PAL-DVD file the render would stall at the point where the transition was incorporated. I tried a few variations and was able to track it down to the transitions that were causing the problem.
Hope the above gives you the details that you needed.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks

Thanks for providing all the details..
First for video durations greater than 1 hr, you need to reduce the bitrate. Maximum bitrates of 10kbps which is the sum of video and audio are allowed. The higher the bitrate the better the quality, the larger the file size and less can fit onto a SL DVD. So to fit 2½ hrs of video on a SL DVD your bitrate would need to be around 4200kbps. This is assuming an audio bitrate of around 224kbps. There are free Bitrate calculators to help determine a suitable bitrate for your DVDs. Here's an online one: http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm
Next you are aware that your MPEG-1 video clips, do not meet DVD specs, so they will be recoded to MPEG-2 to meet those specs. The frame size will be re-sized to 720 x 576, and the frame rate adjusted down from 30fps to 25fps. I would think that these clips would appear terribly pixelated, and not very smooth. VS must create out of thin air the additional 80 x 96 pixels per frame, and then must drop 5 frames for each second. There is the possibility of using these clips as Picture-in-Picture on overlays, where they may not be resized to the full frame resolution. However the frame rate will still be changed, which might make them appear choppy.
Finally did you install the patch for VS ProX2? If not it can be downloaded from Corel's website here: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 7273776985
