Any possibility to add a single object using picture tubes?

Post by yankee »

Can I place a single object on my picture using picture tubes? Say, the yellow flower and not the red one. Can I resize, rotate or move it after adding? How?

Mostly the tube pictures are quite small themselves, so sizing them up to fill a large space will often not produce the kind of quality image you might be looking for.

If that's not a problem, you can kinda do what you're after. You can't select one specific tube-image to appear but you can make it not random.

When you select the Picture Tube tool, the Tool Options Palette shows the little selector where you can pick exactly what pictures you want. Near that, you should also see two drop-down-menus. One is "Placement mode", normally this is on random and that's fine. The second is "Selection mode" - this is how PSP chooses which specific image from within your "tube" to paint with next - normally this is also on "random". Switching that to "incremental" means that it will paint each image in order then repeat (makes it fairly easily to find the one you're after). Putting it to "angular" means that according to which direction you're moving the brush when you paint, you'll get a different image (can be fairly effective at picking out just the image you want).

There's another setting there "Step" which is probably a fairly small number right now. If you push that all the way up to 500 then you'll find that you have to push the brush around with the button down for a longish time before PSP will paint a second tube image - this can also be handy if you're getting too many images splurged on top of eachother and you really just want one.

There's also a "Scale" number box there. That's how big the painted image should be relative to the original picture in the tube. 100 means normal size. You can switch that number up or two down make the pictures come out of the tube either bigger or smaller.

If you need to resize even further - or move the image after you've painted it then do this:

Before you paint with the Picture Tube tool at all, do Layers -> New Raster Layer from the main menu. Now brush down your one picture. Now if you switch to the "Pick Tool" (looks just like an arrow mouse cursor) you'll be able to click on the painted tube image and use the familiar handles to resize or drag him around a bit. (it's actually selecting the whole layer, but since your tube image is the only thing on it, it works out the same - this works for any Layer that only has opaque pixels in one area).

Hope that helps!

If tube images just aren't coming out sharp and clear enough at the size you need, you're probably better off having a quick Google for a bit of clip art that shows what you're after.
