Yet again a confusing set of Packs for new prooduct

Bought X2Pro today - could have upgraded but wanted to save myself the trouble of having to install 9 and 10 before X2. (Never had much luck with the 11 trial.)
Like with previous versions there is a collection of Content and Bonus packs, and an upgrade, with nothing I can find to tell me which is right for me.
Content Pack
Ultimate Bonus Pack 6in1
a zipped Ultimate Bonus Pack 2
Patch
What is what and which do I need and in what order?
And why doesn¡¬t Corel make it easier for us to know this stuff?
Thanks,
Nicholas.

First of all, you don't need to install previous versions in order to install an upgrade, you just need a serial number from a previous version.
Install the content pack (the program itself). The bonus packs are just that, bonus material (frames, objects, etc.). Install if you like. As for the patch, you can install that if you need it. It fixes the following:
Compatibility Improvements:
* K-Lite codec pack now works properly when creating FLV files
* Program now successfully converts JVC® GZ HD-30 files
* JVC GZ HD-30 files now import correctly
* MP4 file insertion now works as expected
* Program now successfully plays clips captured by Sanyo CG65
* Files captured by Samsung NV24HD can now be imported correctly
* HDV now writes edited projects correctly
* H.264(MPEG-TS) Audio now plays correctly
* AverMedia volar MTV H.264 MPEG-4 files are now inserted as expected
* H.264 file playback performance for AVCHD™ clips is enhanced
* Program now includes support for Kworld USB capture device
User Experience Improvements
* Imported DVD subtitles are now clearer
* Painting Creator playback performance is enhanced
* Some special characters no longer cause template errors in Spanish version
* Movie Wizard Template errors are corrected

Since there is no installer for the bonus content, where am I supposed to put it?

Where ever you desire.
Just create some folders on your system, like Bonus or Extra Content, then some sub-folders for each type, Backgrounds, Video, Decorations, and so on. Then just copy/paste them into those folders.

In a way you have really kinda proved my point: there¡¬s no sense in the way these downloads are presented.
I got a download link for the product - so why would I be given a cryptic download choice called "Content Pack" as well, if it is as you say, "the program itself"?
As to the instructions about installing the Bonus content:
....."Just create some folders on your system, like Bonus or Extra Content, then some sub-folders for each type, Backgrounds, Video, Decorations, and so on. Then just copy/paste them into those folders.".....
seems a little odd.
Does X2 know where to go and look for these files that I have placed on my computer?
If not, then what is their purpose?
Absolutely love the new graphics: so nice to be able to see everything at last, without having to squint at a bland field of grays.

They relate to X2 about as much as any of your video files -- wherever they are on your computer or external discs -- do. In other words, they don't necessarily have to be anywhere since X2 will not automatically look for them. As long as you know where they are, you can find them when -- or more to the point, if -- you ever need them.

Are there clear instructions included with these bonus files as to where I should put them so that VS can use them - if I decide that I want to use them?
Is the Content Pack really just the main program file? If so, why is it even included?
I know it might appear that I am being obtuse, but perhaps no more obtuse than the way these extra files are presented.
Perhaps I should just leave this one alone now.
Thanks for all the input.

The bonus files can be put wherever you want them, or just keep them on the disc. They are like your video or image files from you camera. You use the Library Manager to import them into VS when you want to use them.

The Content Pack includes things that VS needs to work correctly; SmartSound, DVD menus, etc.
The Bonus Content is additional templates, themes, etc.
You need to install the Content Pack, the other is optional.

As one of the posts in this thead mentions the Patch, if I downloaded the Pro X2 Tuesday, do I need to now download the patch.... or was it included in the recent download?
thanks

Probably not. And, I would only install the patch if you are having a problem that the patch reportedly resolves. No sense trying to fix what ain't broke.

Just to clarify Black Lab's "Probably not", I am sure he was referring to the latter part of your above questions, not the former! Corel does not appear to roll patches into recent download or even boxed versions of their products.

You are correct Ken. Thanks.
