Creating Blu Ray from current projects
Moderator: Ken Berry
Hi
just got My BLU Ray burner today, not fitted it yet.
Looked thru all the posts on this thread, found no mention of BLU ray
rewritables, when I first got into DVD's I always used rewritables cos the
technology was new, trying to avoid coasters.
So I logically (for Me anyway) decided to go the same route.
I will let you know how I get on.
Regards.

Fortunately the last error did not destroy the disc so that lives to be burnt another day.
I next tried to create a disc image so I could burn to disc with another program. I selected the create Bluray folders option instead of burn to disc. All went well again until the total progress bar went to 99% then it started to multiplex audio/video and again stopped with the message
' internal error in the DVD engine', [533:-2147216492:0]
It would appear therefore that the error is in the VS program and not in the Burner which works OK in other programs.
Any Ideas please?

Creating Blu Ray from current projects
I discovered another posting which gave the answer to the 'internal error in the DVD engine' VS will not multiplex Dolby 5.1 sound. I rerendered all my projects selecting to create a custom file with stereo audio. With these files I was able to burn a Bluray disc without the error.
I still have the problem though that the video is very jumpy. When I play video direct from the camera it shows superb smooth and sharp film on the HD TV. How can I save this superb video onto Bluray disc?

I have downloaded a trial version of Magix video editor pro plus 1.5 and used it to render my HD video. Although not 100% perfect the resultant HD films play very smoothly without the jumping and pixel break up experienced with VS pro 12. I have therefoe used the Magix to re render all my HD films to date and hope that I shall find a way to get VS to give the same quality.
The first films I tried with my new HD camera in June rendered nicely in VS but now in October, even though I have reinstalled the program many times I cannot reproduce a good quality film.

Smart Proxy Files Vanish
Since I am still trying to archive Nirvanas with X2 (not likely until the 64 bit version comes out) I will post this recent development here for Ken to answer. If Mr Berry had a dollar for every question posted here, he would be able to have someone else process his videos - ha
Of course creating smart proxy files helps with processing AVCHD projects, but I notice a phenomenon that I wasn't aware of before or didn't see.
When I load new video MTS files, smart proxy creates the appropriate smart proxy files - If I have to shut down the computer (or the program fails before outputting mpg file) I notice when I reload, the smart proxy files are gone..........they are still on the hard drive - but X2 doesn't show them in the smart proxy file manager window AND the video clips of the saved and reloaded project are in full HD, so of course they don't play back smoothly.
Even with the new computer, program is glitchy and often says "Corel needs to shut down." If I wasn't patient, I would seek a new video editing program. Too bad Corel can't keep up with the new operating systems and multi core processors AND increase memory. I have 8 gig and might was well throw 5 of it in the trash!
My apologies to Ken and the other moderators for having to work with this outdated product. Come to think of it, multi core processors, mega giga memory capacity AND 64 bit operating systems have been around for more than a couple of years!
Corel either will keep up or it will be collectible, kinda like Atari.

Re: Creating Blu Ray from current projects
I have a similar problem. The previous posts do not show a solution but in case someone has come up with one since the last post I set out my experience below.
I have successfully burnt several projects to DVD in the past. But I wanted to burn a 3.10 hour project (consisting of two MPEG files captured from VHS) and so I needed to burn to a Blu-ray disc.
In case it is relevant, the first problem I encountered was that when I got to the Burn Disk window my project showed up as needing about 50GB of disc space instead of the approx 12GB of the underlying files. Since I could not burn to disc I tried creating a MPEG Video File of the Project. That worked fine and I can play the resulting MPEG Video Clip on my PC.
So I then used this MPEG Video File as the only file in the project when asked to Add Media on the first page of the Create Disk window. The Required Disc Space then showed up as 12GB approx and I started to burn the disc only to get the same error message as mentioned in previous posts namely 'There is an internal error in the DVD engine" and a number 533-2147216492:0.
I tried burning a second time and discovered that this message appears after the Detailed Progress Box has finished showing “Converting Audio of the Title” and “Formatting Disc” It appears just at the point when the Detailed Progress Box shows “Video/Audio Multiplexing”.
Has anyone discovered how to solve this problem?

Re: Creating Blu Ray from current projects
Since I posted my earlier message I have discovered a solution which is to UNTICK the 'do not convert compliant mpeg files' box in the second of the icons in the bottom left of the burning screen. With the box unchecked I have successfully burnt my DVD.
That leaves me with the problem that when I get to the point at which I want to burn the project to disc it tells me I need about 50GB of disc space which obviously is far too large. I therefore have to first create an MPEG Video File of the Project. I can then use this MPEG Video File as the only file in the project when asked to Add Media on the first page of the Create Disk window and I am then able to burn the disc.
If anyone has an idea as to how to skip the creation of a Video file, please let me know.

Re: Creating Blu Ray from current projects
In days gone by a workaround was developed for people who had problems similar to yours - failure to burn a disc when going straight from the project to Share>Create Disc. We call it the Recommended Procedure. That workaround consists of first creating the MPEG2 file then burning that to disc.
When you go straight from your project to Share>Create Disc the program goes thru the entire process of first rendering your project to an MPEG2 file, then doing the actual steps of burning the disc. For whatever reason, some users have problems with the process. What the recommended procedure does is take the workload off of VS/your PC by making it a 2-step process. It will not take any longer, the same two steps are being done, just not at the same time.
If the process of first creating the MPEG2 is working I would stick with it. I do!

Re: Creating Blu Ray from current projects
Thank you for your helpful advice. I am glad that I managed to hit on a recommended procedure as the solution to my problem and very happy to continue to use it given that, as you say, it is just doing the job in two stages. Mark

Re: Creating Blu Ray from current projects
When I started with v6 that was the recommended way to go. I still use that procedure, even though going straight to Create Disc might work with X3. Tough to teach an old dog new tricks.

Re: Creating Blu Ray from current projects
Mark -- would I be right in assuming that you have X2 rather than X3? I ask since from what you have described, it sounded that you were moving your project file direct into the VS burning module. With X3, the burning module which originally came with the package -- DVD Factory Pro 2010 -- is a real dog. While in theory it is possible to move an X3 project file into it for burning, in practice it is more usually slow and problematic. Corel has thus made Movie Factory 7 SE available as an alternative burning module, and with that you have no alternative but to use our Recommended Procedure!!
It cannot recognise X3 project files, unfortunately, so you have to first produce a final video in X3, then insert that in MF 7 for authoring and burning.
