Converting video of the title takes forever

Using VS11. To make DVD I always make MPG2 from project that has my video with titles I make as .jpgs from 3D. I then make DVD using that MPG2 container and set the DVD settings to the same as the MPG (upper field first to match my MPG2). I have 'Do not convert compliant MPG' checked off. The end product works ok but when I make the DVD VS is stuck for quite some time running saying 'Converting video of the title'. Why is this? everything is bundled in MPG2 that is all I am using and everything matches.

Are you sure your MPEG-2 file is DVD compliant? (Correct resolution, etc.) If you're using more than one MPEG-2 file, do they all have the same exact properties?

BTW - I have had MPEG-2 files that I thought were compliant, but Video Studio didn't agree... I don't know which one of us was wrong...

And what do you consider "taking forever"? How long is your project? Are you using a menu?

I think I found a big bug. When setting the output of the MPG file if you set the field order to anything other than Lower Field First and THEN go to the Compression tab, the field order will flip to Lower Field First. If you go to Compression make your settings and then go to the middle tab for output and set Upper Field first it is sticky. I was outputting by mistake as Lower Field first because of this bug. Now nothing is having to be converted to make my pass to DVD. This should be submitted to Ulead as bug.

I just tried to replicate your "bug" but could not. If I choose Share>Create Video File>Custom, and choose MPEG-2 as my file type, go to Options>General Tab and set the Frame Type to Upper Field or Frame-based, then go to the Compression tab, returning to the General tab still shows Upper Field or Frame-based. It did not change back to Lower Field.

Is that what you are doing?

Are you sure it is the video that is being converted and not the "Video" of the "Menu"?

When you create your DVD Menus you are in fact creating short videos, one for each menu "page." and the duration depends upon the length of any "moving parts" such as motion thumbnails or an animated background. Superimposed upon those short videos are hot spots which relate to your "Buttons" on the "Menu".

One other little thing you might want to look at is in the menu creation stage in the burning module. When you open the burning module (Share > Create Disc), you first insert your video in the burning "timeline". If you want to add Chapters, then click the Add/Edit Chapters button. Then you click next, and the page where you choose a Menu template appears. Once you have selected a template, you click on the Edit tab on the same page to select background music, change the background photo etc.

Down in the bottom left corner of the Edit page, though, is an innovation which first appeared in VS10, and I have found that it slows down my burning stage enormously, and has even brought it to a complete halt. Now I never use it.

There are two icons, one above the other, labeled Menu In and Menu Out. Using them is supposed to animate the transition from the menu to a selected video clip. You will see that the Menu In icon is disabled by default (circle with diagonal line through it). But the Menu Out button is enabled. And this was the culprit. Click on the icon and it brings up a choice of animations. Choose the disabling one identical to the default for Menu In. Then proceed to burn. I think you should notice a considerable improvement in the speed.

Another factor that causes long rendering times is choosing "Smart Scene" style menus.
Why do Smartscene menus take so long to create?

Hi

If you have a compliant Mpeg that is being used to burn a disc then you do not have to convert / render the file again.
You should tick / select Do Not Convert Compliant Mpeg Files.

Can you confirm that there is a tick in this box?

You should not see Convert Title, the progress bar should start with Convert Menu.

or is the highlighted red text just a typo
