Samsung HD video

Has anyone used a Samsung video files with VideoStudio 12?
I have some video files take with a Samsung SC-HMX10 HD camera but VS does not seem to like them. Samsung has its own codec which I downloaded but no luck. I can get the video to play with VLC but not in VS.

How exactly did you download the files from the camera to your computer? As far as I am aware, your camera uses the H.264 codec and is high definition 1280 x 720p, but it is NOT AVCHD. It uses the .mp4 extension, and as such should be recognised by VS and be much easier to edit than AVCHD (which is the most demanding variant of H.264 mpeg-4).

You may have to download the video using the method/software that came with the camera. But then I would have thought it should simply open and play in VS...

I took the files off the SD card and imported them into VS. I no longer have the camera, I had some problems with it so I returned it and went with a Cannon camera.
The video files play fine with VLC but not inside Corel. Corel will display a thumbnail of the first frame but if I hit play the play button changes to a pause button but nothing else happens. If I hit pause I can use the other features again. It doesn't play audio or video.

VLC is pretty good at converting but it wont convert the Samsung video, usually I loose the audio track.

The video is important to me and would like to be able to edit or at least burn it to SD DVD.

Just to add a little to Ken's reply, playing a video in a video player is a lot different than getting a video editor to accept it and then allow you to edit it. However for either the proper codec does need to be installed AND recognized, and able to be used. VS does allow for mp4 video, however I have came across a couple that VS throws a fit on. For those I ran through Super, converted to mp4, not really another format. However after doing so, VS allowed them, really strange...

Even though I'm not a big fan of VLC, I have found that it is one of a few that will play just about anything you feed it. I've been contemplating on putting a glazed doughnut in my DVD tray to see if VLC will play it...

For converting your video from one format to almost any other, try SUPER. It can convert DivX, Xvid or even MPEG4 files.
