Shuttle Pro V2
I just got the Contour Shuttle Pro V2 today and am currently playing around in VS12...AMAZING! how did we ever get along without it? Moving frame by frame has never been so easy, and using the custom key assignments is extremely useful. Straight out of the box things worked well...please check this out if you get a chance, it makes some of the more tedious editing tasks easy and video editing much more fun.
I apologize if this sounds like a Shuttle Pro advertisement, because it is not meant to be, I wanted to make sure that everyone knew there was a peice of equipment that was extremely affordable and easy to use. I got mine on Amazon for like $90.00...they normally retail around $130.00. Check out their website (http://www.contourdesign.com/shuttlepro).

Thanks David. Sounds most interesting! Unfortunately, it does not seem to be available at all in Australia, even at the Apple Store... though I can get it from the US via e-Bay for about the price you paid for it, including freight.
However, could I ask if you have tried it with VS12's multitrim feature? I ask because a review I read about the ShuttlePro V2 noted that while it worked perfectly with Media Studio Pro 8, it would not work at all for multitrim in VS10+... At the time, Corel said that it did not support the device. So I am naturally wondering whether it now works with later versions of VS, and also whether Corel now supports it...

Any updates to this thread??
I see Contour design doesn't produce it anymore----but you can still get a new one cheap off of amazon or ebay.
I have to go through long game footage of my baseball games and cut and pull clips for review.
The controls for getting exact frames seem so slow using the normal built in jog shuttle.
A controller that would let me zip through frames exactly is what i need.
any suggestions???

Thanks for bumping this. I too remain interested.
By the way, Contour still does make the Shuttle Pro -- see http://ergo.contourdesign.com/products/ ... aspx?id=39 Price there is US$149.95. Definitely cheaper elsewhere...
EDIT: Interestingly enough, doing a bit further Googling. I found another Countour site advertising it for $109.95, which is the retail price shown by Amazon: http://retail.contourdesign.com/shuttle/shuttleprov2/

Yes, I got this device, and upon trying to use it more in depth on VS X2 and earlier versions I found that it wasn't working as nicely as I originally thought. I have Adobe Creative Suite that includesd Premiere Pro (Adobe's NLE software)...and it works awesone. I still however use VS for more basic projects, I just don't count on Shuttle Pro for them. I got my Shuttle Pro V2 for $89.95, but then I did a Google search and found this web page (http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... ps-sellers)
...it should help those of you looking for the Shuttle...I love it with Adobe stuff...and it is programable (I haven't tried that yet in VS, but there is a VS setting, and you can adjust the controls to your liking, so it would be more usable). I highly recommend it!

So David-----you think it is possible to use the programmable feature to get it to work better with VS X2???
I don't do that fancy of editing.....I just need better controls to quickly skim game films and then cut the exact clips I want.
Will the Shuttle Pro V2 at least work using the jog wheel correctly?
How about the Shuttle Xpress----which looks to be a cut down version with only a few buttons----but has a jog wheel....
Anybody use it?

OK, I think I got this figured out. I just opened VS X2 and started in on the customization for the Shuttle Pro V2. It is kind of tricky...but here goes...
--When you install the Shuttle Pro V2 software (get the latest from the contour website) (http://retail.contourdesign.com/shuttle/shuttleprov2/), you will need to enter your email address so they will email you the link to download it.
--Once the software is installed there are a few listings in the Shuttle Control Panel for Video Studio...but for some reason it defaults to VS 7, which is OK because you can change the customization as you see fit.
--When you open the shuttle control panel, use the drop down box under "Application Setting" and choose "Video Studio 7" and you will see on the right hand side of the screen a picture of the shuttle pro V2. If you press any button or jog wheel on the actual shuttle, it will highlight the button to show you which is active.
--so for the jog wheel there is a small trick though to make it work...go into the shuttle pro control panel and jog the middle wheel to the right once and you will see that the "Jog Right" selection is present. Then in the Shuttle Contol Panel click once in the "Keystroke" box, then press the right arrow if you slected the jog wheel right, left if you selected left.
--Now, here's the trick...go to your VS time line and click in the time line and the press the "Tab" button, this will activate the jog wheel in VS, so your Contour Shuttle will be able to jog as you intend...you will then be able to use your jog wheel very nicely.
--Go through these steps to customize the other button...you simply need the shortcut keystrokes to enter into the Contour Shuttle Control Panel buttons. You can find these shortcuts in VS help and do a search on "shortcut".
Remember, the cool thing about the Contour Shuttle is whatever program is active, Contour will automatically find it in their control panel if it is listed and will automatically use it, but you can then easily customize it.
Of course, if you have any questions please reply here or send me an email (david.jordan@gmail.com).
Good Luck

I've read a little about this device, but am unclear about what functions it can do within VS X2. I saw that it can do frame-by frame advance with the jog wheel. Can it also scroll along the project time line - forward or backwards - at variable speeds, depending on how fast you turn the jog wheel? Or at least scroll at designated fixed speeds such as 2x, 4x, 8x, etc.
Sony XR-500V, VS Pro X2
All good questions and that is EXACTLY what I want the thing to do....
Scroll quickly through the time line so I can pick out exact frame/footage to extract.
A friend gave me a Shuttle xPress which is a cut down version of the Shuttle Pro V2.....
Has the same programmable features.....supposedly----just less buttons and a different form factor.....
I'm playing with it now----otherwise i will order the Pro V2 and try it like David has.
Trying to extract exact clips with the mouse and current controls is killing me.

ShuttleXpress works perfectly in overall timeline and in selected clips.
You just haveto click on thetimeline and then hit the tab key....
But I think with the right programmable settings-----you could program the shuttle Pro to do it all right there on the controller.
Shuttle Pro V2 is probably better than the xpress as you could set more than just Mark in and out......
I was able to go faster than 60 frames a second forwards and backwards and slow it down to as little as a single frame with a little playing around with the settings.
The trick would be to find the right keystrokes to get you into clip mode or timeline mode-------and then program them into the ShuttlePro or xpress so you didn't even have to hit the Tab key
Maybe also program in a save clip button.
I think these things have great possibilities.
Am going to order a Suttle pro V2 and then compare......
The xpress might be all I need but those extra programmable buttons look like the total ticket.

UPS delivered my Shuttle Pro V2 today ($82 from Amazon). It was pretty easy to program for VS, other than I never would have known about the trick to press the tab key to enable scrolling the time line with the jog or shuttle wheels if david_k_jordan had not posted that tip. Thanks for that, and for making me aware of the existence of the Shuttle -- never heard of it until you posted about it.
I think it is going to be a real plus when working in VS, although I have only tested it briefly on a short test project. It remains to be seen how much help it will be on a real, full-length project, but I'm optimistic it will be a time saver.
johnrr6, you are right about the value of the extra programmable buttons on the Pro V2 (compared to the Express that you tried). I've found uses for all 15 buttons and wish it had a few more.
