Chapter creation question VSPro X2

Hi all

It is a long time since I have been required to add Chapters to a video, but I now have to add 7. The project is a 35 min video of a family history, using scanned photos and slides and split into 7 'eras'. I put in the Chapter points as I produced the storyline, then I created a video file. I closed the project down and then went to 'create disc' and when that launched I selected "add video" and added the 35min video file.

I had 'create menu' box ticked and then said to 'add chapters'. The new screen opened and I scrolled through the video using the jog bar and selected the start of each Chapter (I have a black screen with white writing saying "Chapter 2 1960 to 1970" so easy to find them).

Then i click 'ok' and the screen goes back to the original "Add media" point and I click 'Next" and I select a gallery template that has 9 thumbnails (all the others only seem to permit up to five chapters) and I can see my 7 thumbnails. If I click one of them to preview it plays and then goes on and plays the next Chapter (even though i have selected "back to menu" in project settings).

I have read the DVD authoring guide but got very confused because it appeared to use 7 or so individual video files to create the chapters. Can I not create Chapters from one video file? Do I have to split the 35mins video file into 7 separate videos?

Last question - the client wants to be able to EITHER play through the whole 35 mins OR be able to watch only certain Chapters - how do I give them that capability?

Would appreciate any advice thanks

Your last question first, which will probably answer your others. If the client wants to play the entire video, or just individual "titles" that they pick from the menu and then go back to the menu when they are done, then they will have to be individual video files.

Is it possible, to create a DVD from several individual video files, but the DVD plays continuously, w/o returning back to the menu, at the end of each video file?

Thanks and regards

Yes. When you get to the chapter creation screen click on the cogwheel icon (lower left) and uncheck Auto Repeat When Disc Playback Ends. You will then be able to choose Continue To Play Next Clip.

I would also agree with Jeff that your particular project would be better served with 7 separate videos (Titles) rather than chapters so that someone can view an individual era and return to the main menu.

If you have just one title and split it into 7 chapters, by selecting a certain chapter you only define a start point. The end point will ALWAYS be the very end of the complete video.

See this flow chart which I hope will explain.
