"Failed to create VOB folder" error

Post by Scooterspal »

I'm getting this error: Failed to create VOB folder on MovieFactory 5.

I have around 8 DVD clips on the timeline. All together around 16 minutes of material. Tried it several times, rebooted the computer and still the same error.

Any thoughts?

These are MPEG-2 clips imported from other DVDs?

In any case, there is probably something "wrong" with one (or more) of your clips, or something about them that Movie Factory just "doesn't like".

It's not unusual to have a video file that plays OK, but causes trouble when you try to edit or recode it. It could be a format (or format variation) that Movie Factory has trouble with, or it could have some slight corruption.*

You might need to start-over, adding one clip at a time until you find the "bad" clip(s).

Sometimes it helps to transcode (or re-encode) the files with SUPER (FREE!!!). SUPER has lots of MPEG-2 settings & options... You can look your Movie Factory Project Settings to find the settings (resolution, framerate, bitrate, etc) for a DVD compatible MPEG-2 file. SUPER is kind-of a screwy program (with no help file), but it's saved me a few times.

In general, it's best to avoid re-encoding an MPEG-2 file (to avoid loosing quality), but sometimes you have no choice. A high bitrate will mimimize quality loss due to re-encoding. Since your program is only 16 minutes (you don't need to worry about file size) you can use a high bitrate (~7000kbps).

When you bring the re-encoded clips back into Movie Factory, you can select Do Not Convert Compliant MPEGs (on the burn screen) and this will (hopefully) prevent another re-encode.

* I'm not talking about file corruption (which almost never happens unless your computer has a major problem). I'm thinking it could be corruption in the video data structure... something "went wrong" during encoding (during compression).

I was able to get it to work by joining the mpeg clips on the time line but leaving the title clips (short 5 sec of black video with a title superimposed on top in Ulead) in between by themselves.

For some reason, when the title clips were also joined with the other clips it would not complete without the error.

Thanks!
