Is there a patch that will let me burn a x8 blank on a x2.4
I have a 2.4 NEC 1100A burner and have had no problem burning x4 blanks. Now x8 blanks are becoming standard, and I am getting an error message "Failed in Performing Power Calibration, DVD+R-SP71-2A-02-03-73-03 (93006:1:0)."
Are there any patches around to fix this, or am I going to have to get a new burner or buy up all of the x4 stock I can find? I have already tried downloading all of the Ulead patches and nothing seems to work.
Thanks,
Richard

You could try patching the fimware which would basically turn your old 1100A into a 1300A. Here's a link for you to check out.

Hi,
That is very common depending on your dvd burner and it's compatibilty
with other media.
To use the 8X disks you MANUALLY set the burning speed in MF4 or
any ulead product to 4X or a speed that is reliable.
Using the AUTO setting isn't recommended by other users.
They have found it more reliable to set the burn speed manually in the
output burning module. Under Advanced or Options. It's there.
Usually as a rule of thumb the slower the burn the more reliable the
burn is, but that depends upon the dvd recorder itself.
Hope this help,
MD

Yep! You need a Firmware Update.
However, your Burner was shipped with a Max Hardware Burn Rate based on Disc Goove Dynamics. Higher rated Discs require tighter Head Tracking, Firmware may not help, only make additional Brands of discs compatible with the current working Hardware specs.
As others have recommended, after a Firmware Update, find the most compatible Brand and Speed of Discs, recommended by the Manufacturer for your Burner, and then set the Burn Rate yourself.

I just bought some Memorex 8x DVDs that came with firmware upgrade instructions for my NEC. It worked fine. Go to http://www.de.nec.de/softwareoverview2.php/id/557 and scroll down. There are upgrades for both the CB-1100A and ND-1100A. Just make sure the upgrade is compatible with your current version as outlined in each of the readme files.
